Default Watching the show now and a question about David

I thought that he was dating Ann and then I get confused in the 2nd episode when Ann is trying to decide if she wants to go away to Chicago for a weekend fling with someone she met on a plane? What about David?

She wasnt attracted to him?

She "loved" him, but he was "dating" her more then she was dating him. In an upcoming episode he'll sleep with another woman, which makes her jealous. But still, they were never a couple in the traditional sense.

Basically, the whole concept of the David character was a major mistake, which everyone quickly realized, and that's why he disappeared so quickly.

I was reading a NY times review of the 1st episode and the writer described him as the "plump babyface lawyer"

Not only was David himself blah but I think it was a mistake (on the series' part) for Ann to have dated him when the ink was barely dry on her divorce decree and she was struggling to find the means to support herself and the girls. Seriously, Ann should have avoided dating exclusively for about a year after her split from Ed and long enough for her to have re-establish herself.
