What was up with J.J. and all those Aretha Franklin references in Seasons 4 and 6?

He made one or two references to her in “J.J.’s New Career”, three or four references to her in “The Judy Cohen Story” and one or two references to her in “The Traveling Christmas”. What was up with that?

I remember the one in New Career because when he said it the guy looked like he wanted to slap the **** out of him lol

In The Judy Cohen Story J.J. made a reference to her by saying Judy Cohen was the next Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, and somebody else I can’t remember.
