Default TVFactFan, good news, I rewatched the Good Times pilot

To prove to you that Good Times IS indeed a spinoff of Maude, I watched the originally aired CBS Good Times pilot last night.

Here is the plot:

Soon after Henry’s promotion, Florida ditches him, marries his often laid off and unemployed alter ego, James, quits her maid job, and relocates the the family from Tuckahoe to Chicago with the help of Cousin Wilbert by station wagon in order to pursue project life she’s always desired and wanted. LOL.

I agree. Not a spinoff, and don't know how anyone can think it is.

I usually agree with you two but no, Good Times IS a spinoff of Maude. Technically, Florida and James both appeared on Maude but James’s name was originally Henry and when they transitioned to Good Times, they changed Henry’s name to James, plain and simple. If it wasn’t for at least Florida appearing on Maude, I would agree with you two but she did, you can’t wipe history away. And didn’t Florida mention her three kids on Maude? THAT should be enough to prove to you that Good Times is a spinoff.

Explain why in the world a fireman (steady work) would pick up and leave to another state just to become a part time car washer and dish washer.

It’s called inconsistency and discontinuation. That’s like saying The Facts Of Life isn’t a spinoff of Diff’rent Strokes because Kimberly didn’t go to the boarding school.

Well then Good Times is a spinoff of Maude then. Florida appearing on Maude is just like The Drummonds appearing in the first episode of FOL. You can’t say Florida never appeared on Maude cause’ if you did you know you’d be lying.

But it was never a setup episode like how

DS setup FOL
All in the family set up Maude and jeffersons
Happy Days setup Laverne and Shirley

It doesn’t necessarily matter. As much as would’ve liked to see Maude and Good Times crossover and Good Times make references to Maude here and there, as long as Florida appeared on Maude, Good Times IS a spinoff of Maude no matter how hard you try to deny it. What next, Harriett appeared on Perfect Strangers and got spun off into her own show, Family Matters, but Balki and Larry didn’t make any appearances on FM and the show hardly if never made references to Perfect Strangers. Are you gonna claim that Family Matters has nothing to do with Perfect Strangers?

Yup because it was consistent, Harriet worked as a elevator operator at the Chicago Chronicle and keep the same name and lives in same location and it was a promo setting up family from Perfect strangers

Fine then. Good Times isn’t a spinoff of Maude. Florida Evans never appeared on Maude. There was no episodes of Maude that featured Florida. John Amos never appeared on Maude. Something doesn’t add up here. The only reason The Evans Family was transitioned from Tuckahoe to Chicago was because Good Times was partially inspired by Eric Monte’s life in Chicago projects. The other 65% is all Maude. If he had no say in GT’s location, I’m sure the family would’ve stayed in Tuckahoe or moved to Harlem. Like I said, if it wasn’t for Florida appearing on Maude, I would’ve agreed but since she DID appear on Maude you can’t dismiss it, can you? It doesn’t matter if Good Times was consistent or not, Florida appeared on Maude and you know that and you can’t deny it. Basically, it was an indirect and inconsistent spinoff.

That's like saying Everybody Loves Raymond is a spinoff of Seinfeld because "Robert Barone" was on an episode of Seinfeld playing a crazed mechanic. I guess he decided to move to Long Island and become a cop.
