Default Supermarket Sweep New Episode on a Special Night and Time This Week

Tomorrow night (Tuesday), ABC is airing a new episode of Supermarket Sweep away from its normal home at 10:01 eastern time. While it has marginally done better than other shows on ABC Sunday, they might be secretly giving up on it and capping at 10 episodes/one season. I saw ABC's annual airing of The Sound of Music last night which took up all four hours of primetime space, and not once was Tuesday night's Sweep advertised despite being two nights away. During the previous Sweep, its finale was advertised as being January 3, yet they ignored the Tuesday night airing which is sooner. Millionaire has been advertised as returning January 3 not the finale, and it did get an ad during The Sound of Music. Supermarket Sweep's fast dropping ratings from its premiere might have had ABC decide it is not worth being a long term player. And if ABC uses focus groups I am sure they got a lot of comments slamming how terrible of a host Leslie Jones is. This version is a pale shadow of the David Ruprecht version that is such a classic. Only thing the new version has improved on is the bonus round where you can cash out or keep playing for higher stakes clues. Even there, the winning teams that only get one or two of the initial clues very much get robbed not getting to keep any money for them. With the increased money values overall, should be an additional $500 the winning team gets to keep for each of the first two clues if they don't get all three.

I won't be surprised if Supermarket Sweep ends up getting cancelled.

No wonder I couldn't find yesterday's Supermarket Sweep episode on Youtube this morning. What I think ABC is trying to do is try the same formula that they tried to do with Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and Millionaire got low ratings for ABC. And now ABC thinks that with Supermarket Sweep they think that a new night and time will make it rise from the ashes like the phoenix in Greek mythology and once ABC works it's magic with a new time and a new night Supermarket Sweep will gain even better ratings. But even with a new night and everything else Supermarket Sweep will most likely not survive but what I think is that the January 3rd season finale is a lie because most of the audience that mainly watches this version are Leslie Jones fans and I think just like Steve Harvey is to Family Feud Leslie Jones hopes that she will become as huge as Steve Harvey or hoping to be a popular comedienne due to Supermarket Sweep's popularity and because of it ABC might extend the show for more episodes and get even bigger ratings than ever. But like Yoda says in Star Wars "do or do not there is no try" And that phrase may be true for ABC with Supermarket Sweep

I saw yesterday's Supermarket Sweep episode on Youtube this morning and I don't see why ABC decided to air it yesterday because there was nothing "special" about the episode. And you would think because tomorrow's Christmas Eve Supermarket Sweep would've had a Christmas themed episode because of the so-called special airing that ABC did yesterday. I did notice something weird on a commercial break because the very first and only commercial that aired was for Celebrity Wheel Of Fortune and it may seem that when Celebrity Wheel Of Fortune debuts next month Celebrity Wheel Of Fortune may replace Supermarket Sweep as the number one game show in ratings for ABC in 2021. But during the whole episode there was only one banner advertising the January 3rd season finale of Supermarket Sweep while the other show that got a banner was Dick Clark's New Year's Rocking Eve With Ryan Seacrest that's airing next week. I think ABC overpromoted Supermarket Sweep and thought that it would be a monster hit. But when you look at the general picture when the Supermarket Sweep reboot was announced it was supposed to be shown in syndication only but I don't know how ABC got to air it? Then the debut date kept getting pushed back first Supermarket Sweep was set to air in the spring then got moved to the summer and finally they decided to debut it in October and everyone knows that fall game shows are usually slow starters in ratings at first but I think that ABC chose to air Supermarket Sweep in October was to air it before Halloween because after the debut episode aired the next Supermarket Sweep episode was about Halloween. So while ABC is having high hopes of having another monster hit game show like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Supermarket Sweep will be known as ABC's one hit wonder

How much of a hit was the David Ruprecht version of Supermarket Sweep, anyway? I don't consider it a classic game show even to the level of Card Sharks (which I liked the older versions of, but wasn't a big hit either), and I don't think their was a huge clamoring for the show to return. I always found SS cringeworthy. The choice of host probably has little to do with this version's low ratings.

Hi, Bestie! I agree SSS should have had a Christmas themed episode. It is almost like they don't want the show to succeed! Leslie needs a chance to grow into her rolr as host. But it looks like networks now says do not have the patience. What do you think?

Leslie does not deserve any chance to grow, she is a truly awful host. If the Sweep revival is renewed a different host should be picked. But ABC is more likely to outright cancel than admit they made the wrong host decision.

It had a long run on Lifetime, then PAX. Supermarket Sweep is one of BUZZR's most popular shows, and there has been a new following for it since they started airing the reruns.
