Default Andy's Old Girlfriend S7-E20

Interesting episode for me because I could never fully remember it from seeing it years ago. Knew there was a cabin episode, but wasn't sure who went with Andy and Helen. Typical color theme episode. Andy is put in a no win situation. Helen is thrust into a weird scenario with Andy's old girlfriend temporarily living with the Taylors. Andy makes it worse with stupid comments. Introducing Helen to Alice as "Opie's schoolteacher". Helen gets boiling mad a couple of times. Still, shows remarkable restraint how she's treated. Mediocre episode. No real laughs. No Floyd. Small Goober part. Howard shows guts confronting Andy. Not an episode to warrant watching again, maybe every couple or few years.

I've found that episode, Opie's Drugstore Job, and Goober's contest are usually three Color episodes that are usually kept out of the colored syndication packages. Opie's Drugstore Job because the first 8 minutes of the episode being Andy Griffith playing himself and being a Twilight Zone version of Mayberry, Goober's Contest due to how sickly Howard McNear is (slurring his words and being just awful to watch) and as for this one it's usually either fans are angry the girlfriend isn't Sharon DeSpain or it's due to it being similar to Season 5's Guest in the House, which while still an awful episode the cast aren't obviously phoning in the performances

A "Twilight Zone version of Mayberry"?

I know all the color episodes feel this way to some level, but how so?

I wrote a thread about it awhile ago, but the basics is the first eight minutes is basically a Twilight Zone-esque parody of TAGS: Otis is now a dangerous drunk driver who fights Andy after Otis drives car through the Harper's rose garden after getting drunk, there's another bully character named after Sheldon Leonard who steals his brother's car, drives it out to the marsh and sets it on fire which causes the marsh to catch on fire, there's a reference to Miss Vicker's calling the courthouse with someone looking for Ethel (a reference to I Love Lucy who at the time was feuding with Danny Thomas who oversaw TAGS and Gomer Pyle) and Andy treating Opie and Aunt Bea the way one would expect going so far as to say in a threatening tone "Where's the Boy" when Opie hasn't arrived back yet. Given how scared both Aunt Bea and Opie (when he shows up) act during this scene one has to wonder if it's acting or genuine on the part of Francis and Ronny, particularly given Andy's demeanor during Season 6 before Howard was introduced (that's what i meant when i said Andy acted like a member of The Who because before Jack Dodson arrived Andy was so stressed he was wrecking hotel rooms and his house like they did, having sex with Anita Corsaut where cast members could walk in on them (George Lindsey and Sharon Porter's actress (who was twelve like Ronnie Howard) each walked in on them doing it and according to IMDb Andy also had sex with Betty Lynn after the rehearsals of 'The Return of Barney Fife" and giving her a portion of his royalties to keep the matter quiet)

Andy Taylor's old girlfriend was an extremely attractive woman:

I'll say one thing, if Griffith was dropping his hammer on even just a very small percentage of these actresses, he was one lucky man...!
