Conner Kids & Dan

The selfishness of the Conner kids is infuriating. Their senior citizen Dad, who has a heart condition, is out there performing manual labor to put a roof over their heads & they can’t figure out that they ought to help him?? They know he’s losing the house - wouldnt a combined effort by Darlene, Ben, Harris & Becky be the fair & logical way to save the house & keep the extended family going? Why in the world is it all Dan’s responsibility? So Ben & Darlene have a dream to start a crime magazine - nice, but not a smart choice of their energy when they are all days from being homeless. Why not suck it up & get one of those menial jobs just to feed the family & get things back on track? For that matter, why don’t Ben & Darlene help Dan with his drywall business? And Harris - I don’t know if she is employed or not, but if she is, she should contribute - if not, help Grandpa. I know Becky has the baby, but up until this week she was a paid worker at the Lunchbox - so she should contribute, too. The Conner family used to be famous for everyone pitching in - Roseanne took jobs she didn’t like as did Dan, & both put dreams on hold for the sake of the family. Why can’t these kids do the same?

I agree that Darlene, Becky, and DJ needed to step up... However, it's not all their fault. Dan concealed the eviction letter, so they couldn't possibly have known that they were "days from eviction".

I don’t fault DJ - he has a child to care for, & doesn’t live there, as far as I know, but I could be wrong! If he lives there, he should help. The others may not have known that they were days from eviction, but they did know the house was in foreclosure & Dan got no help from the bank. What did they think was going to happen? It seems they were too wrapped up in themselves to do the math. But I guess sometimes kids still feel like kids re: their parents, even when they are in their forties!

I was surprised when the kids offered to pay rent. I assumed they were already pitching in some funds. In Lanford’s crap economy, why is a crime magazine Ben and Darlene’s priority? Most any startup business takes months if not years to be profitable. Becky is now working for free, but at least childcare is handled. However, she could go back to the Mexican place and at least get paid. Her husband’s family can watch Beverly Ann. Surely there is a job out there for Harris. This show can be so depressing, yet I continue to watch it.

This show is very depressing. Everyone seems like a shadow or a shell of their former selves. Darlene went to college [and for what], Becky was an honor student in high school [and for what] and look at them both now. They are both so pathetic and sad now working at Wellman Plastics like mom and Aunt Jackie did decades ago? Becky and Darlene have not accomplished much. It's just so sad. I haven't seen the new episode yet, but I'm getting to it.

I agree with posts 4 and 5 ! And yeah IDK why I even watch it? , but I do , it's usually not even that funny but I watch I guess for nostalgia reasons remembering the original Roseanne show , which actually wasn't even that great after Season 5 really ! It even got depressing at that point !

This ep. where Becky and Darlene went to work at Wellman's did actually have some funny moments , I have to admit !

It's certainly better than Season 9, but even a root canal would be better than the poorly-written "lottery" episodes.

I enjoy The Conners in part because it is a little depressing. I absolutely love the fact that in the 1980s, Roseanne and Dan had all of these hopes and dreams: she was going to become a writer, he was going to start a bike shop, Jackie was doing theater. There was hope... there was optimism. And, like so many families in the late 1980s/early 1990s, they lost so much: they lost the bike shop, Jackie had to give up doing plays to find blue collar work, and Roseanne's writings remained unpublished. Becky, formerly an honors student, eloped to escape poverty, only to find herself living with her husband in a trailer. Darlene was the one Conner who went on to college: she'd be the legacy of the Conners: the one to get out of Lanford and become someone.

20 years later, we see the Conners are still struggling; Darlene's career stalled, and she's moved back home. Becky's husband died. The things we as viewers hoped for for the family didn't quite happen. It feels like a brutally honest reflection of the world we live in today.

There are things I don't like about the show (including no Andy, no Jerry, very little Crystal, and no attempt at civil discourse with Beverly), but the Conners being down on their luck, yet always trying new ways to make money in naively optimistic ways, feels very true.

I didn't watch the Rosanne show but have tuned in to the Connors. Not knowing much of the background, I can't grumble much. The last episode the halloween with Mary going through the house for tricks was cute. Although I did find out the DJ wasn't home much and would have thought earlier that she would stayed with her aunts and great aunt and grandfather. Was she all alone all day at her home?

Honestly he wasnt a big part of the show. Her trying to have him was a bigger storyline and he was pretty much an extra after his birth.
