Default Lauri Hendler celebrating her 18 birthday party with two FOL girls.

Lauri Hendler (without her trademark glasses) celebrates her 18th birthday with two Facts of Life girls, Kim Fields and Nancy M. This would have been in 1983.

Cool find! This looks very similar to Felice's birthday party.

I'm wondering why everyone's wearing red, white, and/or blue. Lauri was born in April.

Strange to see Lauri without her trademark glasses. Some people think they were a prop for her nerdy Gimme a Break character, but they are very real.

As a little girl she guest starred on a Three's company ep. wearing glasses !

I guess she had bad eyesight and wore glasses but maybe wore contact lenses sometimes for special occasions like at her birthday party !

Also big glasses were the style back than if you needed glasses they were big frames glasses ! Remember Angela on Who's the boss, she only wore glasses for reading but they were huge and she was a stylish woman !

Maybe symbolizing her freedom being 18! Very liberating not having to have the childrens work permit anymore seemed to be the birthday party theme with that cool cake !

My god, Angela Bowers' glasses were gigantic! It was like she needed glasses for her cheekbones!

I know you meant Gimme a Break, but just in case anyone is confused: Lauri wasn't on The Facts of Life.

Thanks!

Also: it's so cool to see Lauri's TV sister, Kari Michaelsen, there. I love it when cast members are close enough to spend time off-set together like that.

...Ooh, I wonder if they ever went to Denny's? THE Denny's, I mean. The one across the road.

This party took place 6/10/83 at the Beverly Hills Friars Club. The theme was freedom since it was her 18th birthday so that accounts for the patriotic attire.

Angela was a very stylish woman! She says in her TV Academy Legends interview that during preproduction of season 1 she found out they didn't have much of a wardrobe budget, and she told the producers, "Look, guys, she is an advertising executive president commuting to New York City. She has got to be stylish". And she and a woman she got to help her (maybe someone with the show?) arranged a luncheon for the producers (Blake Hunter and Martin Cohan), and Judith did a lightning-quick-change fashion show for them, coming out in outfits such as "This is Angela taking the train to work"..."This is Angela in a high-powered business meeting"..."This is Angela casual at home"..."This is Angela going out for a date". And she said after that, Blake and Martin were completely wowed by this makeshift fashion show, and they said "We'll get the money. Don't you worry. Somehow we'll get that fashion budget"---and they did! (I love that story! )

And she said she has had so many women come up to her telling her, "I watched you every week. You were my inspiration to become an executive." (That is so awesome!) And she says that she's heard from many women that they would tune in just to see what Angela would be wearing that week. So her fashion and her groundbreaking business world status made her a viewing icon for women and girls in the 1980s. So cool!
