Tsunami Spirits

As a fan of/believer in ghosts, I was really looking forward to it. But the episode disappointed.

If the episode had focused on a specific haunted location or specific spirit, it would have been more enjoyable. Instead, the episode seemed to lack focus.

I remain hopefully for a more traditional ghost episode if the show is renewed.

That’s because there’s lots of spirits wandering around all over the place, visiting lots of different people.

For me this episode made me feel more sad than anything else. Especially the photo albums at the end, and the little girl who let go of her brother. I remember seeing the footage of the earthquake and tsunami not long after it happened. A year later my friend’s home was destroyed in Hurricane Sandy. The pictures from both disasters left a big impression on me. I’m from California and I’m afraid of an earthquake by the ocean. In fact I’m afraid of the ocean now, period.

I guess it’s just a weird phenomena that these ghosts are seen so often by so many people.

And, the taxi drivers in Japan wear suits and ties?! Wow. I gotta move there.

Agreed 100%. I believe in ghosts as well. But most of this episode was speculative, airy fairy stuff and maybe even damaged the case for the existence of ghosts.

Those who are criticizing this segment for not being a typical ghost story are right about one thing: It's not a typical ghost story.

These people went through a traumatizing experience where they didn't just lose a relative. Some lost families...they lost their cities...their keepsakes. The Japanese are a spiritual culture, not boogey men. These lost souls are stuck on this earth and don't know where to go.

I liked this segment better than the UFO one because I connected with the sense of loss. The man talking about losing his wife and daughter. The end with the photo album got me.

People are entitled to their opinions, but I think you just can't please everyone.

Chill out. Not everyone has the same taste. I had legitimate criticisms of this episode, yet I’m being painted as the bad guy for not liking it. Yet the people who bash me get away with it scot free.

I actually liked this one, just for showing the sheer devastation of what happened. The footage was unreal.

Agreed the footage was unbelievable. The spirit/ghost stories seemed like an afterthought after watching the tsunami tear up the city.

This was by far my favorite episode of Volume 2. I understand the criticism of it all, but at the same time, I thought the footage was, as someone else said "unreal."

I also had no idea that after all that devastation, there was a freaking snowfall. I just can't imagine how it would have felt to have survived the earthquake and the tsunami, only to be snowed on after all was said and done. Heartbreaking.

I teared up watching this one. I watched the live footage years ago and this brought back all the memories. I also lived in JP for a few years (after the tsunami) and participated in efforts to send food up to the impacted areas. I can't even imagine how survivors must feel. I've seen footage from other disasters there, but this tsunami was by far the worst I've seen. I vividly remember watching the tsunami unfolding on TV (live) and watching people driving as fast as they could to get away. It was devastating to watch many fail to do so.

Yeah I remember that too. I saw what was happening but I wasn't really taking it in. When I realized what I was watching I had to look away and then I changed the channel once I was able to find the remote.
