Rank the Characters - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I am just including those who made it into the opening credits.

1. Detective Nick Yemana
2. Detective Phil Fish
3. Detective Arthur Dietrich
4. Captain Barney Miller
5. Detective Ron Harris
6. Detective Sergeant Chano Amenguale
7. Detective Stan 'Wojo' Wojciehowicz
8. Officer Carl Levitt
9. Elizabeth Miller
10. Inspector Frank Luger- the one regular I couldn't stand, the less of him the better.

This was a wonderful ensemble show and they really did an excellent job replacing characters who left or unfortunately died in the case of Jack Soo. This was one of the greatest sitcoms on television. It was brilliant and there was not one lunker episode in the whole series and I have watched this show since I was a child almost 40 years ago.

Luger I never much cared for. Dick Gregory was a great actor but this character was annoying and a downer and I didn't much care for scenes with him and Barney ir him and his personal life.

Some people never cared for Levitt and found him annoying, but I loved the character. He is a short guy who doesn't get respect. Harris even called him "Little Levitt" even when cheering him on. He wants to get promoted to detective and feels he is due, and keeps fighting for what he wants and doesn't give up. And actually the man was heroic and very brave to the surprise of the squad.

The rest of the characters were also very good and the writing was excellent. Nothing comes close. Brooklyn Nine Nine doesn't come close (only watched it for Stephanie Beatriz rocking the tight pants. If I had a choice between a long term sexual relationship with that woman or a million dollars, I would have to sit down and think about the options).

Levitt will always rank dead last for me. Most useless and pointless character ever added to any show in the history of television, even more useless and pointless than Cousin Oliver on The Brady Bunch.
