Default No more Peanuts holiday specials on free TV

Thought 2020 could not get any worse? Apple TV+ decided to play the part of a real life Scrooge and remove all the classic Peanut holiday specials from free network tv.

The streamer is also making the specials available for free for a limited time. Pumpkin will be streaming free from Oct. 30-Nov. 1, with Thanksgiving following from Nov. 25-27 and Christmas from Dec. 11-13.

This will effect families in rural areas who do not have access to internet outside of a smartphone. I hate to imagine families having to huddle around their smartphones to watch A Charlie Brown Christmas.

My best advice, is for all families and fans to find a copy of the DVD at a local thrift store for a couple of dollars and not play AppleTV+'s little greedy game.

I have A Charlie Brown Christmas on VHS, so my family and I can always watch it anytime we want at Christmas.

I was wondering when someone would post about the here. I’m just glad I own all the Peanuts specials on DVD or Blu Ray. This is just wrong of Apple. This has been a long tradition for many years and hopefully Apple will receive enough backlash that they will return to broadcast TV at some point. I also hate that all new specials and shows will be exclusive to Apple TV. I don’t want to subscribe to it and would like to have the option to buy them on DVD.

I, too was saddened when I heard this news. We are big Peanuts fans in my house & look forward to these specials every year. It just gives me 1 more reason to dislike streaming services.

On a more serious note, this is why all of these companies are considered monopolies. There will come a time when you will have to pay for everything that used to be free and have no choice as to how and where and how to view your entertainment. And even then, they'll put limits on what you can and can't watch and for how long. This is what's happening in the music world, so I imagine that's what will happen here as well unless Congress does something about it.

Just one more way the rich corporate world has screwed over the poor people during a pandemic.

What a mess the whole system of television has become. Honestly we were a lot better off when there were just the three networks, a few local channels and PBS.

ABC’s deal was up and Apple ponied up more money than ABC was willing to bid. It’s worth it for Apple TV. It’s likely a loss leader - it may not make money for them, but will get them attention in the marketplace.

Just wait until one of the NFL packages goes to streaming only. And it’s coming - just a matter of when.

I'm kind of surprised at the backlash but understand it. I thought EVERYBODY has gone to streaming devices. All you ever hear now is "Subscribe to Hulu","Subscribe to Amazon Prime" etc. and people do.

Face it, tradition means nothing anymore. Btw, how much does Apple TV cost?

That's not that much but I understand paying for something as opposed to free tv.
