I’ve only recently seen an entire episode of this show, and it didn’t seem funny at all, in fact if anything it was more dramatic. I know comedy was different in the late 40s and into the 50s, so maybe I caught a more dramatic episode of the series. Any suggestions on comedic episodes?

I know that this doesn't answer your question, but I tried watching an episode of this on Tubi once and I didn't find it funny or entertaining at all. It was about like watching paint dry.

I used to listen to old time radio shows back in the '70's, '80s and '90's (in fact I still listen to at least 6 old radio shows every week). So I had heard one or 2 Goldbergs episodes on radio before. So I was a little familiar with the show before I ever saw the TV versions 3 years ago for the first time. This came about with the excellent DVD set that is sold.
So 3 years ago I watched all the Goldbergs TV episodes that are on the DVD set. I used to watch it every Sunday, it was the perfect day for a nice program. As for it being comedy or drama I'd more classify it as dramady. Probably TV's first dramady. Yes, it's true the shows aren't roll on the floor funny (as you might classify I Married Joan) but they are amusing. BUT, what they really are are great examples of a show you NEVER see on TV anymore, that is a show done with heart and true family feeling and love for one's fellow neighbor. Molly was always doing good things for her family and also her neighbors. This show really had heart and made you feel good after watching. There are 2 other shows I would classify as having been made with heart and affection for all the characters. You might be surprised but both Sgt. Bilko & Car 54 Where Are You? are 2 classic TV shows that consistently show the heart and kindness toward all it's characters. Everyone has a good heart in these shows, even Bilko in the end shows he's really a softie. No coincidence both of these were Nat Hiken created and written shows. Today there isn't anything on TV that shows kindness or good feeling towards one's own family and friends and neighbors. Seems this is a quality the Woke generation is in sore need of. |
