I'll have to find a new series for my weekends after this. I bought the first season of "Rhoda" i'll start for Sunday nights because that's when I watch MTM and they'll pair good together. I caught a couple of episodes of the 1970's "Bob Newhart Show" on Decades channel and it looked good. I never watched that series because it was always an "adult" show like MTM was so at my age, it's right up my alley now.

Have you noticed the decrease in quality for this show yet? After season 3, it just doesn't have the great writing anymore. I got tired of the Van / Cheyenne drama and especially the Brock / BJ crap. You would think they would want to have Reba as the focus in a whole season for a change, but no. They reuse plots from before. Quote:
Have you ever heard of Shameless? It's Van's other TV series. The first 7 seasons are superb. If you ever find that one on a streaming site for free, I recommend giving that a shot. It's similar to Roseanne and Married With Children. |

Ok it makes sense that this was the first time she needed glasses due to middle age setting in. Van made a comment that "You drove without your glasses?" that threw me because we never saw her before needing them. But it's possible it was a new development with her eyes so not a big plot hole.

Oh God no, he returns again!? Please don't say Reba ends up with him. Ugh. I liked the guy from season 2 she dated briefly and even the minister BJ lusted after would've been good. Anyone but Desperate Housewives guy. ![]() Quote:

Yeah I noticed it back in season 4. Most shows unfortunately hit the wall by the fifth year. Even my favorite "All in the Family" is a downhill spiral after the 5th season. I think 5 seasons is the shelf life of most shows and after that, they're just pushing things along to get syndication packages over quality. I never heard of that one, but will look it up and see if it's worth a look. |

It ends next year so I'll just binge watch seasons 10 and 11 when it's done. I've followed it this long that I've got to see how it ends. I hope it's something you can get into.

I think BJ openly chasing after Reba's men after she already took her husband is way more concerning and a line being majorly crossed. I think in reality, Reba would've thrown her out of the house and said never come back. Wanting to emulate her idol is one thing, but openly wanting her dates is crossing the line imo, especially given the history. Quote:

I'm surprise Shameless is that cheap. It's worth it though. I know you like serious topic shows with humor. Shameless did this perfectly the first 7 seasons. |

Final 4 episodes of season 5!
"Here We Go Again"----Every sitcom has it and it's inevitable to appear somewhere around the fifth season....the dreaded "clip show" rears it's nasty ugly head. ![]() I know some people like them but I detest them with a fiery passion. At least Reba tried to insert some new stuff in between the clips but still...I can just never get into these episodes. One of those new things was the revelation that the court mandated these therapy sessions that's STILL going on 5 years later. WTF?! I never heard of such a thing. ![]() In any case, this was to be their last one (after FIVE YEARS?!) and Reba was thrilled to not have to do them anymore. Well, who wouldn't?! I just thought since it went on that long, it should've been a running gag throughout the series. Like each episode have a small scene at their latest therapy session where hilarity ensued regarding the plot of that particular show. I think that would've been fun. Oddly, Kyra isn't ever invited to these family sessions....but i'll get to her later on.... "Red Alert"----Barbara Jean gets a job as an insurance salesperson and of course in her creepy obsession with Reba, digs into her insurance files and goads her into updating her policy. We learn Reba has high blood pressure at the physical when Reba transported to the 1950's and had a doctor make a house call to perform the physical right in her living room. That would never happen in the 21st century unless you're a homebound invalid on Medicare. Reba would surely have to go to the doctor for that! Her high blood pressure is naturally thought by Reba (and me) to be caused by Barbara Jean and her creepy obsessiveness of her. When she thinks she has to stay away from Reba forever to keep her healthy, she actually asks for a lock of her hair as a keepsake. Ew!! The woman is certifiable! It was an ok episode, but Barbara Jean seems to be getting crazier with each episode. I wish they'd tone down her cartoonish behavior and make her more of a real person. "Two Weddings and a Funeral"---Van and Cheyenne are getting married again for their 5th wedding anniversary. Barbara Jean takes control and rearranges Reba's church decorations by adding a giant gaudy popcorn stand, a merry go round horse, a dozen doves in a box...(make that 11, one died lol) and a huge pink banner saying "Van & Cheyenne 4 Ever!". It looks more like a prom than a church wedding. This woman is insane. Reba of course is horrified but Cheyenne is also horrified when she looks out into the church, but for different reasons. Van invited his coworkers and clients to the wedding and she's very upset about it saying they agreed only people they cared about would attend. She confronts Van asking why her friends from her group aren't there and the place is filled with his clients instead. He tells her that her group friends are all downers and depressing. She takes offense because she's one of those people. They have more words and the wedding is off! ![]() Barbara Jean and Brock decide to renew their vows in their place, but before Reba can make the announcement, she sees BJ's doves fly in front of her and passes out. (to be continued...) And again...no sign or mention of Kyra for this important episode that she would naturally be in. Yet she's still showing in the opening credits. So she's clearly still existing in the universe of the show....it's just never explained just where the hell she is. They could've just sent her off to that Europe school for a year to explain her absence if they wanted to keep her in the opening credits. "Reba's Heart"---Reba is taken to the hospital and through a mix up she's told she has to have surgery, but no one tells her what the hell for...but they're prepping her for that surgery in a few minutes. LOL...would never happen but I just went with it. Everyone is wondering what surgery Reba needs and BJ is being annoying with a camera and filming everything and even asks Reba for final last words. OMG someone just throw this woman out of the room! Van & Cheyenne argue in the waiting room about their marriage. Her mother was just taken to the hospital after passing out and this is what they talk about?! There are more pressing issues here you two!! I get that Van was a major ass to not invite her friends to the wedding, but Cheyenne kind of annoyed me with her "I'm a changed person now that I have an addiction and have my support groups!" Actually her character is different, but not for the better imo. I liked Cheyenne before the whole alcohol story line. She was flaky, but a good character. Her whole existence seems to revolve around her support group and she's neglecting her child and husband. In this whole season, I rarely saw her with her daughter at all. It's like she stopped taking care of her completely! They bicker and argue through most of the episode until the rushed end where they try and make Reba happy by saying their vows to each other in her hospital room, but while saying them, they realize they still love each other and quickly make up. And still no mention of Kyra or where she is while her mother is laid up in the hospital! ![]() Reba learns of the mix up and that she doesn't need surgery and she just fainted. Everybody is all happy and the show is over. And what comes next is a whole montage of the entire series that looks like it's a Series Finale which make me wonder did I pop in Season 6 and watch the last episode of that season instead of 5? ![]() I went to the Wikipedia page and read this : The show was cancelled when The WB and UPN merged into The CW. However, in an 11th hour move on May 17, 2006, The CW renewed Reba with a 13-episode order, reportedly to fulfill a syndication contract worth $20 million This episode aired on May 5 so at the time, the show was cancelled and this was the finale. Oh boy what a slap to viewers that would've been if it was. It was so lame for a finale and I only hope the last one of season 6 closes things better. At least they included Kyra in the clips showed. So season 5 is done. I can't say I enjoyed most of it. I think the first 3 seasons are the best, though i'm hoping season 6 isn't a total train wreck. Will watch the first 8 episodes next weekend!

It would've been nice to see a long story arc about her in a relationship though. And I would've liked to have had more Reba and less Barbara Jean. The Shameless dvds going for 6 bucks are used copies. I only buy brand new if it's something I know I love and want to keep forever. Otherwise, if it's just something I want to check out or will watch only once, I go for the used copies. Brand new it's going for $17.34 on Amazon. |

That's too bad, hope you enjoy s6. I do agree s3 is probably the best season but I still enjoy the others. |

First, you can tell by the way a certain actress looks in season 6 if you had the wrong disc in Yes, this was intended to be the series finale since The CW didn't want this type of show on their network. Back then the woman who ran The CW wanted nothing but teeny bopper shows on the network. She tried sabotaging Smallville and more importantly Supernatural She was one of those women who loved the Aaron Spelling shows by greenlighting 90210 and Melrose Place remakes. Oh cfr if you didn't see the Melrose Place follow up, you are lucky. They had the gull to bring Sydney back to life just to kill her off again Dumb ass network thinking fans would accept that Anyways, yes they rewrote the final moment of the season 5 finale to do a montage honoring what they accomplished. I miss The WB. That network really became a hit with the young adults by allowing a variety of all kinds of shows and not just teeny bopper shows. I would have liked to have seen Reba meet someone and have a happy ending starting her life over again. She's too busy trying to fix all these other people's problems, that she's neglecting her own health and happiness. |

I think all shows lose their creative quality around the 5th season. It's difficult to maintain the same quality as from the beginning. Maybe all shows should be capped to 5 season maximum. |

I guess since they thought the show was cancelled and this was the end, they tried for a full circle angle...ending the show where it began. But the therapy did seem to come out of nowhere. I don't think it was mentioned that they were still going weekly much less mandated by the court! Quote:
I'm not liking that! BJ's behavior is growing more bizarre each episode and the whole "single white female" thing is more creepy than funny. They're turning that woman into a caricature at this point. Quote:
I get that, but I wish they would have acknowledged Kyra's whereabouts if she was still a part of the show. Say she went to boarding school or something. Not even mentioning her even in important episodes like the wedding and hospital only makes the viewer wonder where she is. They even could've done a "Roseanne" and hired Sarah Chalke to play her for a while. ![]() Quote:
Yeah, I found that strange because he just runs off down the hall and we never see him again. Where the hell did he go?! Quote:
When I did a search on Meleissa Peterson to see what she's doing now, I saw the pictures of her stick thin and then an article from back then how they incorporated it into the show. So I know about the weight loss and looking forward to seeing the new BJ in season 6...but not if they amp up her SWF behavior. ![]() Quote:
I remember in 2009 being excited for MP returning and all the viewers were pissed off what they did to Sydney and imo that's when the show tanked. Viewers massively tuned out after they killed her off. It was all so pointless, but I still tuned into it until they yanked it off the air. No one wanted to see a new crop of 20 somethings---we tuned in to see the original cast....same with the new 90210 but incredibly, that one lasted a few seasons and actually became a hit for them. Quote:
I remember when the CW started and it was all comic book superhero shows. ![]() I think it's terrible that they didn't do that for her character and think audiences wanted that for her. Don't tell me how it ends, but even if she had just met a man that insinuates it would go long term would've been enough. |

I dont think they amp up BJ's SWF behavior in s6, its pretty even to where it was in s4 and 5. If anything she gains more confidence with the weight loss.
