TV "Jeopardy!" Season 37 Returns Sept. 14th / Ken Jennings Joins as Producer

"Jeopardy!" Champ Ken Jennings Joins Season 37 as Consulting Producer
by Alexandra Del Rosario
September 3, 2020

"Jeopardy!" announced Thursday that all-star player Ken Jennings will join host Alex Trebek and the rest of the team for season 37 of the beloved trivia game.

Jennings will join the Sony game show as a consulting producer when the season starts back up on Sept. 14. As a consulting producer Jennings will present some of the show’s newest categories, offer clues, develop other Jeopardy! projects and help the team in their search for new contestants.

While the former "Jeopardy!" contestant is slated to head back to his stomping grounds, Trebek says he’s not going anywhere.

Don’t worry, I’ll still be the host,” Trebek tells his fans in a promotional video. “And I’m looking forward to seeing you.

Ugh, I was hoping the ultimate tournament back in January would be the last of Ken we would see.

I certainly hope this means he will succeed Alex Trebek as host.

I have a enough of Ken. Saw him on a quiz show with Brooke Burns with two other knowledgable people and it seemed Ken was so dominate that it made the other two knowledgeable people look like dust. I thought give the others a chance. I lost interest in the show for it so much KEN. I do wonder does Ken have any interests than being a star in knowledge. Many people be on tv but hold a non show business type job.

I bet I know why Ken Jennings became a producer for Jeopardy? I think he told Alex Trebek "If something happens to you I want to fill your shoes and become the host" and Alex said alright. Because ever since he became Jeopardy's champion I think Ken has been eyeing to work in the game show world either as a page or a host and even though he's a star on Masterminds this job is one step up the ladder for Ken to chase his dream

Alex Trebek is the host of Jeopardy. He is not the owner of the show and has zero influence on who becomes the next host unless the owners allow it. It's exactly like the Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson. NBC owned the Tonight Show name and the time slot. Johnny Carson wanted David Letterman to succeed him but NBC chose Leno. Johnny even advised Letterman to leave NBC after he lost out on the Tonight Show.

Ken Jennings obviously loves trivia and loves being around the show. I'm sure he also makes way more money being involved with the show than whatever he did before. He can't help it if he's better than everyone else and being very competitive he wants to win. There's nothing wrong with that. If Ken Jennings went on Dancing with the Stars or crap like that then I can see people being sick of him. To me, I've never seen him be anything but classy, win or lose.

Nice to see you back!

Yes, totally agree with above. Hiring him as a consultant is probably a wise move; he loves the show, understands it well, and is clearly very bright. A good triple combination to me.

I completely agree with you 100% I can't stand Ken Jennings either. At some point I realized he's a really arrogant know it all. And I hate that they've added him to Jeopardy but I'll just have to put up with it. But yeah I'm thinking they're grooming Jennings to eventually replace Alex Trebek. But it doesn't matter either way because when Alex is finally gone from the show I'll quit watching it anyways.

Yeah, I realized that when I made the mistake of looking at his twitter. He thinks he's a lot funnier and cuter than he actually is.

Ken Jennings' New Role with "Jeopardy!" is Not a Tryout for New Host, Says EP
by Matt Webb Mitovich
September 14, 2020

Ken Jennings’ new, on-camera role with "Jeopardy!" is not a tryout of sorts for him to one day succeed Alex Trebek as host.

When it was announced that Jennings was joining Season 37 as a consulting producer, the common assumption was that he was being groomed as Trebek’s eventual successor.

But new executive producer Mike Richards nixed that notion, in an interview with The Ringer.

Alex [Trebek] is the host of the show. We’re not shopping,” Richards asserted. “He’s our guy, and he’s our guy till he tells us he’s not our guy, and then we can have a different conversation. I just don’t think it’s appropriate to have that conversation until Alex comes to me and says, ‘OK. This is my plan.’
