Default Two Reasons why Carter Country never made it to a 3rd season

1st season ratings........#32-19.6 million viewers

2nd season ratings..........#70-15.6 million viewers

It was a decent show as I recall, but the title alone would have diminished its appeal over time, especially in regards to syndication. Too tied to the 70s.

So the show was created behind Jimmy Carter?

Surprisingly it did better than the Jeffersons, What's Happening, and Good Times after its 1st season and Welcome Back Kotter its 2nd season

Maybe someone at the network didn't like it and used the fact that it wasn't a breakout hit as an excuse to cancel it.

Just speculation on my part.

True, The Jeffersons and Good Times were instant hits and this show was not and finished in top 32 after season 1

Carter Country went from a protected Barney Miller lead-in on Thursday nights in season one to Saturday nights in season 2. The show that aired after Carter Country on Saturdays did even worse. Apple Pie was pulled from the air after just two episodes.

That wasn't very common back then. Even in the quest for ratings, the networks would generally give even the worst shows a handful of airings before pulling a show off the air.

Some fair-to-middling shows were given a half, or in some cases, a full season to find an audience. I think if you give a show at least a few months, that's fair.

But as the furor for ratings increased, networks grew increasingly impatient and wanted breakout hits.

Especially if they produced more than one episode
