Default Just sat down to watch the 8:30pm episode of Alice and Mel's mom walks in......

and im like............."Oh no not her again" Then as I continued to watch the episode I noticed after about 15 mins....."Where the hell is Mel? It seemed strange for a scene to be in the diner for so long and not seeing mel at all. Then it turns out he didnt appear in this episode at all??? Why the hell would his mom be on the show and he is not in the episode?

This was the "Dollars to Donuts" episode

I wasn't a fan of the Carrie episodes, a little of her went a long way. In one episode she takes over running the diner for Mel, not sure if it was the episode you mentioned or not.

I think Vic Tayback missed several episodes for health reasons. In those, they would bring Carrie in. Makes sense since Martha Raye was a big star at the time, so was a good draw.

He did indeed miss a few episodes due to health issues. Sadly, that means more of his mom. I could never stand her!

Vic had surgery which resulted in an adjustment to the S8 shooting schedule. I assume that also why he was credit only in two of the final three series appearances of Martha Raye.
