I will probably offend someone here, but here goes. Maybe the reason Benson is not more popular is that Benson comes across as not a likable character. He comes across to me as a know-it-all sourpuss. His attitude toward Miss Krauss and Clayton Endicott is mean spirited.
As for hired help, Hazel Burke and Lynn Belvidere are more likable characters.
Lynn Belvidere has some jerky moments too, but they are balanced with moments of compassion as well.

I enjoyed it more when Benson was head of household affairs. When he started climbing the political ladder, I dunno- just wasn't as funny. Plus, after the Marcy character left, the show just didn't feel the same. I like Didi Conn, but prefer Caroline McWilliams on the show.

Yes, not everyone cared for Denise. I grew to like her, mainly because I really liked Pete and they were a team. When the two of them left, then the quality of the show suffered because there weren't as many characters to play off. I also thought the Pete character was very funny and I missed that.

The show gets no exposure for younger generations to sample so that's why it can gain a new audience. Like right now for example, the show only comes on once a week and airs at 8am to 9am?

How the hell can it get noticed?

I just watched that one last week. I've been recording them on DVR for whenever it airs. I wanted to see episodes from the final season to compare it to the early years. I do know that in its final season that Benson and Diff'rent Strokes were up against Dallas (without Bobby Ewing) and they both got cancelled early in 86'.

That would be ideal, because it's like a Catch-22 right now with the show. It can't get a good time slot because of the viewership but it can't get the viewership without the good time slot.

Another one of those lost sitcoms from the 80's

Not complete on DVD
Not on any TV streaming service
Not on Digital TV

I would blind buy it if it was complete on DVD
