Some people thought it was not normal for an 11 year old to be such a feminist/activist. While there was probably some exaggerations for your entertainment purposes, I really do think Molly Ringwald was a feminist/activist views when she was 11/12 years old based on different things she said in interviews though the years. Molly's now 11 year old and 17 year old daughters seem to have followed in their mother's footsteps.

I do believe Molly was a feminist: most of the early FOL characters were drawn right from the girls themselves. But Molly's feminist dialogue was often clunky. I can see where they could have gone with it, but... her dialog reminds me a bit of DS, when, for example, Kimberly would say something like, "You know, Mr. Jones. You're nothing but... a bigot!" "Yeah!" They could easily have brought out a sense of realism by making it understated, and far more powerful.

When Mrs. Garrett says, sadly and quietly, that the Black experience isn't her experience, to me, that is powerful. Molly yammering about the girls being "women" feels cheap. It's too... on the nose, I guess. This was one of the only things I didn't like about Season 1.

I know what you mean: MOLLY could be a bit too much sometimes, and she was my least favourite of the 'Lost girls' (although i still liked her)

I still liked her, too. With a few tweaks, she could have been an amazing character.

Same here! She was my least fav of the lost girls but it doesnt help that she never returned after early s2

Yeah, we only ever got one guest appearance, so we can't really even judge how her character might have been tweaked to provide slightly less clunky dialogue. It really is a shame, but, then again, it was the producers' decision to give her such a limited role, which sent her packing.

Season 2 Molly was quite different than Season 1 Molly in Season 2 Molly's very brief appearance. Season 1 Molly was a happy child, Season 2 Molly was Miserable Molly (though I think that reflected reality rather than a character change).

Would Season 1 Molly even hang around with someone like Margo? Would Season 1 Molly allow Margo to berate Jo instead of sitting there silently, except for a wimpy "Let It Go, Margo" response?

You're absolutely right 80s Dude, but the MOLLY character went to 3 changes: in the pilot 'The girls school' she was more like TOOTIE (nosy and very talkative) like when she speaks non stop to MRS G, asking her if she has any candies and can help her with her costumes etc....

In season 1, she was the environmentalist and into woman rights and independence: always calling herself a WOMAN!

And in season 2 she was basically a clone: REAL MOLLY would have never hung out with MARGO (she would have sent her to hell instead) but with JO instead of course!

They change everyones roles from the Girl's School pilot. Nancy O. went from being an actress to wanting to study Psychology (a trait Felice shared), Blair went from being the bad girl rebel to the snobbish NY socialite with a big heart. Sue Ann went from being the airhead country girl to the innocent country girl. Molly and Tootie didn't really have too specific roles in the Girls School.

Molly did look cute when she did her "We are women, OK Mr. Bradley?" when she pulled a Mindy and tried to stop from laughing at her lines.

No: Season One Molly would have stood up and said something like: "Knock it off, Margo. You're treating this poor girl... I mean woman... like dirt. When women treat other women badly, it makes all women look bad. Since we're roommates, I thought we could be friends. But you're just... a big snob."
