Default TERRIFIC - how many times did they say this???

Sometimes you wish you could find the writers and ask them why they used this word so much. It has almost gotten to be a game with me, when I watch an episode of MTM to see how long before the first “terrific” and how many times it’s said during the show.

TOO many times! And another word is “rotten.” Everything in MTM world is either “terrific” or “rotten”

I grew up in the 1970s, so I was around then, and I never used those words any more than I do now which is only occasionally - rarely even. I sure don’t remember people in real life walking around saying “terrific” all day long in the 1970s.

Does this annoy anyone else?

Doesn’t annoy me at all. Never noticed anything off-the-charts with repetition. I ❤️ the show; always a pure delight to watch.

I never thought of it before, and I haven't watched MTM in a long time , but I didn't and I don't recall anyone else in the 70's in real life saying " Terrific" or " Rotten" that much !

It's the same as how everyone calls everything under the sun "Amazing" today. And that one really irks me. It used to be that word was relegated to things that actually are amazing...but now it's like "OMG this <insert banal everyday thing> is AMAZING!" Ugh.

Each decade there's a word that gets so completely overused that it begins to annoy. As I recall, last decade---in the '00s to '10 actually, it was "Awesome".

I also noticed the word "terrific" was used a lot on One Day at a Time too.
