Who were they?

Probably about 25 years or so ago I was watching some show that was talking about a feud that had happened many years prior (probably either in the late 50s or early 60s) between a talk show host and a comedian. When the comedian was doing stand up on a talk show the host had started gesturing for him to wrap it up. Then the comedian started telling the audience what the host was doing and then he started impersonating his hand gestures. This infuriated the host because he thought that the comedian had flipped him off. That's where the feud began. I can't remember who the talk show host or the comedian were. Anyone know who I'm talking about?
