RHINO home video admits on their packaging for season 2 that they could not find complete versions of 4 episodes on their upcoming dvd release of My Favorite Martian.
One of these episodes is "Dreaming Can Make It So". But Columbia House home video has issued the "Dreaming.." show complete on its "My Favorite Maritan" Season Openers video tape. The other 3 episodes that are on the dvd, but are cut syndicated versions, are: "Nothing But the Truth" "Extra-Extra Sensory perception" "Never Trust a Naked Martian" Since Columbia House managed to find an uncut version of Dreaming, why couldn't RHINO make the same effort for those 4 shows on its release? |

You really want to know why? It starts with an "M" and ends in "oney".
If uncut copies cost too much, their not gonna pay big money for a few extra minutes of film. |

Read our review here:
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/myfavor...dvdreview.html Are the episodes really cut or are they time compressed? I think syndicated episodes would be 22 minutes, but these are around 23 minutes? It's disappointing that 4 of the episodes are not the original versions. Hopefully, they will all be complete for season 3. Do you know if Goodlife/AmericanTV has been showing the episodes uncut? I think they should be on season 2. I've been taping them, but haven't had a chance to watch many. |

If they did use time-compressed uncut episodes from the 80s syndication run that might account for the shortened length. Hopefully that might be the case.
Yes, American Life (formally Goodlife) cable has been showing them uncut,(with occasional technical glitches--and one episode did have a cut). But recently they have been alternating early 1st season shows with the regular order. They will reach the second season in about 6 weeks (or longer if they continue to put in already shown 1st season episodes) |

Yes. It was The Sinkable Mrs. Brown, the one where a real estate agent makes her sell the house. For some reason, the first 20 seconds of the Second Act are missing, where Martin meets the agent and the husband and wife at the door of Mrs. Brown's house and tells them that Mrs.Brown wanted him to show the house, not the agent, who is very annoyed to hear this.
On Goodlife the scene opens with the people already in the kitchen and the agent is showing the cupboards to the wife. |

Since writing the review, I noticed that The Great Brain Robbery also runs at 23 minutes and is very clearly time compressed (I should have known better than to assume the packaging would clearly identify the edited episodes, lol, they didn't even get the name of one episode correct, they called the episode "Nothing But the Tooth" when it was actually "Nothing But the Truth.")

It's sad, really, that such simple information cannot be presented accurately.
But if the episode is time-compressed, it still may be complete, albeit speeded-up. This would be a good thing, rather than having cut scenes. |

I have good news to report about MFM season 2 DVD.
I have just viewed the 4 episodes which are mentioned as being in their "shorter syndicated versions" and I am happy to say that they are all complete. This was a case of using time-compressed episodes which were shown in syndication from 1984-94, but no footage was cut from the shows. It is unfortunate that such confusion was generated by the wording of RHINO's disclaimer: They state: "The following episodes...are presented in their shorter,'syndicated' version. After an extensive search, the original masters could not be located." This implies that footage was missing when this was not the case. It might have been that in timing the shows,RHINO found those 4 (or 5--Great Brain Robbery) came up short and they assumed that footage had been cut. In any event, this is good news for fans who now can have the whole 2nd season of My Favorite Martian complete and uncut. |

What's so hard about locating them?
Don't the producers of the series keep to originals as they are so they don't have such a problem? |

All of the episodes are complete and at the right speed on the MPI sets.
