I have been watching Season One on Amazon Prime and after so many years of thinking that it was absolutely cheesy, I have grown to love it. It's absolutely adorable and I just love Uncle Bill's relationship with the kids (especially Buffy and Jody). I've noticed a pattern in the first season where something happens and the kids think they aren't wanted or will be sent away and of course it all works out in the end.
As far as the two Mr. French's I don't really have a favorite although Sebastian Cabot has a slight edge over John Williams. I did love John Williams in "Sabrina" with Audrey Hepburn. Any other thoughts on the show? I wasn't sure if I should reply to the older threads, so I decided to start a new one. |

I love Family affair! I just recently got Season 4 and 5 because I crush on Cissy's boyfriend Gregg! But of course I love the show anyway, even the eps.without him! Now I wish I had ordered the whole series set, the kids were so cute when they were real little !

They really were! It's taken me about two weeks to watch all of Season 1 on Amazon Prime b/c I keep falling asleep! Probably due to just being tired and definitely not b/c the show is boring. So far there's only been one episode that I don't really like and that was "Who's Afraid of Nural Shepini?" I just found that one kind of boring.

Yes! Family affair is great! Very sweet, one of my all time favorites! I still have a few eps. from my season 4 and 5 that I haven't watched yet that I look forward to ! Again, I wish now I just had ordered the whole set. Maybe I will end up just ordering one of the early seasons too ! Probably season 1 cause I remember as a little girl watching wondering why there was a different Mr. French in some eps.? I loved Sebastion Cabot but liked John Williams too, I'd like to see him again and of course Buffy and Jody so adorable really young!

Family Affair is the Little House of the Prairie of the 1960s, in that it’s a sweet family show that frequently clocks you with tragic/sad/weird episodes (Buffy’s friend is dying; Jody becomes attached to his teacher, a dead ringer for his mother; evil Aunt Fran shows up and tries to take the kids away).

I added this show to my once a week daily sitcom watching (I watch 3 different classic sitcoms every weekday morning) & have been watching for the past year or so for the 1st time in decades. Last time I watched aside from when it was first on was in early '70's. Got the DVD set because Me TV skipped way too many episodes for me to be happy. Yes, I agree with all here it is a nice show and all the characters are people you care about and best of all the kids don't talk like smart aleck nightclub comedians the way they have kids talking in modern era shows.
I'm now in the 4th season and I see a difference in the progress of the show. Uncle Bill is getting smarter. He now seems to be making smart decisions and is more sure of himself when he makes those decisions. He no longer takes bad advice from people on how to raise the kids. I like this big difference in him. Today for instance (Thursday is Family Affair day) Jody was blamed for throwing a rock thru the school window. The principal was a real jerk and didn't listen to Jody when he tried to open his trap. I kept thinking as I watched "TELL HIM" but Jody was silent. Well, Bill believed him and disagreed with the principal to his face and told the principal (after he told Bill to do so) that he would not pay for the broken window because Jody didn't break it. This led to Jody possibly being suspended and Bill then sticks by Jody's side and considers private school instead of public for the kids. It was very well written if not a bit dated but still very good. It was idealized as Jody when given the choice would rather stick in Public school and even the Spanish kid who really did throw the rock came forward and admitted it. I doubt that would happen today, but you hope that it would. Anyway, Bill handled the situation just right. I was proud of him.

Yep!! I just recently watched that Season 4 , Jody being accused of throwing the rock episode! Loved it !! ![]() I love how this show teaches you a lesson , how it is a comedy, but yet it deals with real life issues ( from the time ) and can get quite emotional ! I loved this show as a child , but at the time didn't realize just how wonderful a gem this show really was ! Thank God for getting all these great old shows ( esp. Family Affair , it is great ) on DVD, Internet and Retro TV channels ! ![]()
