Default Happy Birthday to Mindy Cohn.

We first got to know her when she went from a real girls boarding school to an imaginary one. Happy 54th birthday.

Just think: if the producers had never scheduled a trip to Westlake, the series would have been very, very different.

It definitely would not be the same Facts of Life. Natalie/Mindy was the class clown.

Wondered if they would have cast Jennifer Rooney if Mindy was never accidentally found.

HAPPY 54th BIRTHDAY MINDY COHN!!

Since she was the first of the Core Four to be deflowered, I wonder if she beat them all to menopause too!

We'll never know, now, but that is an interesting thought. There wasn't much to Jennifer's character: originally, she was Leon's owner, rather than Laura; however, Laura got Leon, in the end. Jenifer was left with a sympathetic but ultimately bland character who hoped to find some way of keeping Nancy at the school. Other than her sympathy, I'm not sure there was anything else to the character.

It would have been interesting to see what they could have done with the character of Jennifer; I do wonder if she was the "country bumpkin" character Julie Anne spoke of, although it seems unlikely. (The only reason I bring it up is because the script has her owning Leon).

During the pilot, only Nancy, Blair, Sue Ann, and Tootie seem to have been given much to do. Jennifer, Laura, and Molly seemed to have been added quickly, with the character names just mirroring the actresses' own names. It's clear the producers wanted around six or seven girls, but after TGS, Jennifer and Laura quickly got the boot, "replaced" in some sense by Natalie and Cindy. The other girls' personalities were retooled somewhat, but Jennifer was gone, and seems to have never worked in Hollywood again: her first and last role being The Girls' School.

I don't think it works that way.

But we do know. Reelz told us so. When planning and casting FOL, there were 5 students: Nancy, Molly, Blair, Sue Ann, and Tootie. That was the set roster, just 5 girls. But then Charlotte threw a wrench in the gears by forcing Mindy in (lol), and then at the last minute for whatever reason (but thankfully) they grabbed Julie Ann the week of that first show!

But we're not given any reason for Jennifer to have been cut between TGS and RH, while each of the other girls are retained.

True we don't know the reason, but we do know that if there was no Mindy, there would still have been no Jennifer.

Really? I feel a little differently. Like, if they had said something like, "The producers decided to limit the number of girls to five slots, and then added two more," that would have indicated to me that there would have been no Jennifer. Instead, they talked about selecting the girls for the pilot, then talked about adding Mindy and Julie Anne for the series, with no mention of Jennifer whatsoever. So I feel -- and this is just me -- like it's a weird gray area. Jennifer Rooney didn't get to tell her side of the story, brief though it was. Nor did we hear one word about her from anyone.

But there was no Jennifer period. They chose 5 girls over her, so she was history after TGS.

I think I see what you're saying kind of like if they thought "Hey, why don't we bring Jennifer on board?" but even after Mindy was brought on she wasn't; it was Julie Anne they yanked aboard instead (thank goodness!).

Wow 80sSitcoms i never knew that!!!

In fact, that's the first time i hear there were ONLY going to be 5 girls (instead of 7) in the first FOL ever after the 'pilot'!!!!
I always thought they've already selected BLAIR, NANCY, SUE ANN, CINDY, MOLLY and TOOTIE, and then that CHARLOTTE added NAT!!!!

Very interesting.......

PS: come to think of it, those 5 girls were the ONLY ones who truly had lines during the 'pilot'!!!!! (especially NANCY and BLAIR)
