Default How did Mel get away with keeping his apartment so filthy?!

Mel's apartment was always a pigsty, HOW did he get away with keeping it so messy?! Most all apartments I know have a housekeeping standard, and get inspected.

I know where I live they will always give a notice for their annual inspections like, "Make sure all trash is taken out, no dirty dishes in sink, no clothes thrown around, etc..."

When I lived in apts. we had safety inspections to see if the fire detector was working and no gas leeks and stuff like that, but never to check up on a person's housekeeping!

IMO I really didn't see Mel's apt as being filthy, more like just messy, typical bachelor apt. that needed to be picked up a little but not really too dirty!

People who work in real estate don't show apartments, that's the job of the apartment manager. I have lived in probably 7 different apartment buildings in my life and every single one of them had an annual inspection by the manager and maintenance man.

Also, for some reason, I think the title of this thread is hilarious! Mel was definitely a slob. I liked all the girlie magazines on the floor. But what's with all the damn pizza boxes?! Mel was a chef who owned his own restaurant, but he still had that many pizzas delivered? Odd.

I live in an income based apartment and they are pretty strict about housekeeping. I would assume Mel, Alice, Vera, Belle and Jolene all lived in income based places just based on what they likely made at the diner. Flo lived in her own trailer, so I'd imagine she could do whatever she wanted with it.

I lived in an apartment for over a DECADE & there was never a SINGLE inspection. That's a violation of privacy. Prison cells get inspections not personal residences!

The only exception would be if you had a smell coming from the apartment that was SO bad that neighbors complained!

we have pest control that comes every 3 months and its kind of like a indirect inspection since u have to make your place somewhat presentable sinve someone is coming in

What part of the country are you in?? I'm in the Midwest & lived in 3 different apartment complexes over a DECADE & that NEVER happened even once! It would be considered a violation of privacy.

That would only happen if you had some HORRIBLE smell of something emanating from your apartment to the point where neighbors complained or something. I'm that case maintenance would show up not someone from the front office.
