Today I saw a Z Living show from last Friday called "Barking Dog" 10.8. It was new to me but what was strange about it is that both Rick & Dave are back living at home again. But in the previous episodes Dave is not only not living at home but he's married and moved into his own apartment with June or Chris or whatever her name in the show is. RIck is at times living in a dorm at college and other episodes he seems to be living at home again. So he switches back and forth, I guess depending if he's needed in the script. But to pretend Dave is now no longer married and living back home again like a kid
is a bit of a stretch.

The thing that most bugs me is Wally going to the university or at least being at the fraternity for around 10 years. And we see Rick at his house and Dave in his apt. and both are married, but when did they get married? Did we see a wedding for either of them? I might have seen one where Dave proposed.
One thing we know for sure is that they're both gone by the final episode, because Ozzie wants to put a pool table in their room, and Harriet wants to turn the room into a guest room. |

Don't worry, if the O&H episode history is any indication Ricky & Dave will be back in their bedroom by the next episode. But fortunately or unfortunately the show was over. Seems no one paid any attention to anything that happened in previous episodes.
As for Wally, it seems at first he seems to be a contemporary of Dave as they're in college together. Next thing you know Dave's out of college (a dropout? never explained) and now Wally goes back in time and he's now a contemporary of Ricky. Maybe it was his younger twin brother. Another thing, how in the heck, when the show had Dave married again for a couple episodes, how did he afford a beautiful giant house, fully furnished (and I'm not talking about his apt. with June now)? Not to mention straight out of school he gets his own private office and a secretary to boot! No starting in the mailroom for Dave, straight to the top right out of school. Nice. |

People sometimes complain how a show does not keep small details properly over the run of a show. But O&H has got to take the cake on completely forgetting it's past, and not just minor details, but complete plots.

Have been busy with work at home so haven’t had much time to really revisit O & H. I’ll look up the season this occurred. Thank you for these great threads. So nice to actually discuss a show. |

This wasn't just a change of cars
Well, I'm not just talking generalities, what was so glaring and what I mentioned in my first post specifically was that in 10.8 "Barking Dog" when David and Ricky are suddenly right back in time sharing a bedroom again. When in just the previous several episodes before it was all about how Dave & Chris are just back from a honeymoon. Then they had one about getting a new lamp for their new apt. Then Dave going back to work while dealing with phone calls from Chris. All these shows just preceding the "Barking Dog" episode where we are now just supposed to forget the previous whole in sequence storyline of Dave the newlywed and his own apt. living. Suddenly in "Barking Dog" he's right back at home in the same bedroom as Ricky. Not a mention of what became of Dave's wife or his newly moved into apt.
This wasn't just another slight discrepancy in the small details of a series this was a major upheaval and total amnesia on everyone's part where we're all now just supposed to forget Dave's new marriage and apt. not to mention the little woman assumed to be keeping the homefire burning for errant Dave to return or she's suddenly dead.

Some of this could have to do with networks showing episodes out of order relative to their production order.
If you cycle TV syndication back to the 20th century, everything was shown in production order. Then TV Land made a big push to show episodes in the order they were originally shown on the network. This caught on, unfortunately. |
