Default Blair and Nancy O. insulting one another

I watched "Pretty Babies" last night and there was a scene where Blair and Nancy O. are exchanging insults to one another instead of Blair and Nancy M. exchanging insults with one another.

I don't recall Blair ever insulting Nancy O. in Season 1. She saved her barbs for mainly Sue Ann and Cindy in the first episode. I don't ever recall Nancy O. being nasty to anyone in Season 1. Of course since she was wallpaper, I may not have noticed.

Well, if you'll recall, in their very first appearance, "The Girls' School", Nancy insults Blair (though she deserved it) by saying in front of the entire 23-girl dorm, "It's too bad we're not doing 'Cinderella', Blair. You could've played both of the nasty sisters." (OOOOooo! Nancy burn!)

And then in "I.Q.", in a part of a scene cut from syndication, Nancy comes downstairs shortly after the beginning asking for Sue Ann's help to study. Blair criticizes Nancy by saying, "Nancy! What are you gonna do when your boyfriend proposes, ask Sue Ann for the answer?" and Nancy is annoyed at that (interestingly, this is before Roger was created).

Also, Blair insults Nancy by insulting Roger twice. First in "Adoption" Blair leans over Nancy's shoulder saying loudly into the phone, "I thought it was that creep Roger!" and Nancy glares covers the receiver mouthpiece and glares at her. Then in "Running" when Nancy says, "Roger got so exchited* when I told him I was into running", Blair counters the value of that statement with, "Roger gets excited in haircuts", which causes Nancy to stare her down.

*(that's not a typo, as Felice flubs the line by making the "sh" sound in the word "excited"---but if I typed "sh", it would look like a "bad word", lol ).

But it is still a bit jarring in "Pretty Babies" because it feels like the girls immediately go into "Meow Mix" mode without any provocation.

Good point. But Blair also goes out with Roger just a few episodes earlier, too, so that may have created some friction.

Not to mention that it's sort of shown that Blair, Sue Ann, and Nancy all have a sort of friendly rivalry going on: Blair makes joking comments about Roger; Nancy calls Blair a "nasty stepsister"; Sue Ann and Nancy fight over the dress (Sue Ann doesn't want to give it back to Blair); Blair makes weight jokes about Sue Ann, even after she knows Sue Ann has tried to starve herself to lose weight; Blair and Sue Ann compete over who has gone the furthest in dating boys; Blair gets Sue Ann into "the Group", but doesn't even talk to Nancy about it. To me, "Pretty Babies" just seems like a continuation of that rivalry, even though we see far less of the Blair/Nancy rivalry than we do the Blair/Sue Ann rivalry.

She made the jokes before, but not after (since she doesn't know Sue Ann tried to starve herself until she passed out in the alleged "cafeteria").

I seem to recall a "thunder thighs" joke in "Running", which aired well after "Dieting". Blair should have known better than to have made that joke, considering Sue Ann's previously passing out in the Tiny Cafeteria.

Oh, I thought you were talking about within the confines of the "Dieting" episode itself.

There's the "thunder thighs" (which is also used in "Mama's Family"), and there's also:

Sue Ann: "Besides, I've got a bigger load this year."

Bitchy Blair: [looking at Sue Ann's derriére] "That's obvious."

No, but I can see why you'd think that.

Right, good point! (And I suspect that line was recycled from the casting auditions, when Lisa was looking at Julie Pie's posterior, and the role of Blair Warner was instantly created. )

Blair was probably just afraid Nancy was big competition for the modeling job and tried to make her less sure of herself. Blair should’ve said Nancy wasn’t All American enough

Ahahahaha!

Come to think of it, she kind of did:

"Striking? Like the Polish auto workers?"

Blair does seem to admire Julie Pie's posterior. And she was the one who went after Cindy for being "strange"?
