Default Opinions on Facts. cfr1970's cozy corner of Edna's Edibles

This will be my new place to comment on my FOL viewing pleasure (and pain) instead of a new thread for every episode. (Sorry if that was a no no here. I didn't know!)

I hope everyone likes the title. or ?

Today's Antenna TV installment was:

We Get Letters

A Mrs. Garrett episode!! YAY!!

This was really good. I loved everything about it except for George & now Andy..Just go away to the both of you. I liked Andy in the beginning, but his hanging around there so much is just unhealthy and weird for a kid his age. And George picking up his Kuwait paper as his reason for being part of the group is so contrived and dumb. And the head tic….ahhhhhh!! It drives me crazy!! Why does he do that? Is it a condition or just bad acting?! (this is his perpetual head ticking)

Now to Edna….I loved everything about this story and learning a bit about Mrs. G’s past as well. So she lived in a one room apartment with her friend Gwen who would hang signs on the doorknob when she was getting some--to the confusion of poor Mrs. G. I really liked when they told that story.

Once again Natalie was my favorite here (after Mrs. G of course). Her reaction to the alleged affair was perfectly in character for her and she acted it out really well. I liked how she confronted Mrs. G with her feelings about it, but it was strangely left unresolved.

Did Mrs. G show Nat the letters like she did with Gwen to make her understand? Or was Nat’s view of Mrs. G forever changed? It wasn’t clarified and left hanging. I guess it's left to the viewer to conclude that, but I didn’t like the implications.

I read the recent thread here about this episode so I won’t go into the “right or wrong” of the letters as been discussed there. I will just say I think it was handled very well where the viewer can understand both sides of the story and empathize with each character. And it was nice to see the old friends make up and end the episode with their girlish gossiping like old times.

Speaking of gossiping, how Tootie perked up at the thought of it in the beginning was funny. We all know how she loves her gossip, they even did a whole episode on it. And today it was Tootie rocking the side ponytail!! Yay for fun 80’s hair!!

Excellent episode and a new favorite. A definite 10 out of 10 even with the annoying appearance of useless tic tock head Clooney.

“Ballroom Dance”---or “Jo & E.Z. Do the Waltz”

Ok episode--not as great as the previous one, but still watchable. E.Z. from “Three’s a Crowd” goes to Ballroom Class with Jo.

I love Natalie having a different job each episode from the temp agency. It’s a nice running gag during this season. I just don’t know what kind of agency would send her out to teach a disco aerobics class. Don’t you need experience for that?! I guess she could’ve been taking classes in the past so she already knew the moves to teach. It would explain her weight loss so i'm just gonna go with that as an explanation that makes sense.

George is now answering the house phone like he lives there?! NO….no no no! I’m glad Tootie admonished him for that. It’s just weird and creepy that these guys are just hanging out in the home like they’re one of the girls now.

Anyway, back to the story. It was nice to see Jo interested in something that’s so against her character. The reactions of others was expected but I liked how Mrs. G instantly approved without making any snarky comments. And loaning Jo her old prom dress was sweet. I love that she got so excited and had it air shipped when E.Z. came back to be her partner again. Don’t go Mrs. G!! Please stay!!

The dance at the end was nice and Jo looked great with her hair up and in Mrs. G’s old dress. 💃🏻

An overall good episode.

Only nitpick was how Jo completely ignored the customer she rang up while talking to Blair. It was so rude how she rang up and bagged that woman’s purchase without even acknowledging her. I would never set foot in there again after such treatment!

Oh no, that wasn't a "no" at all! You're totally fine!

But this is fun to have a "one-stop shop" for all your cfr reviews!

Thanks 80's. This is much better than filling the board with all those episode titles. But it also gave people a place just to talk about those specific episodes, so I guess there's positives to each way.

Now i'm wishing I had just left it as that but I can't edit the titles.

Yes, that paper thing is very ridiculous---and I can forgive a LOT on a sitcom!

Very strangely unresolved!!

I think she should have. When watching, I keep waiting for her to!

It was so bizarre to watch. Jo is talking to Blair the whole time, taking the money, shoving whatever crap she bought into the bag, shoved the bag at her all while not even looking at the poor customer. And the customer just turns and leaves like it was all normal behavior.

I know she was just an extra who was not written to speak, but I would've had a few words for her before I left that place!

It was SO rude!

Yes, you'd expect that kind of behavior from more modern teenagers, and not a 20-something guided by Mrs. Garrett in the '80s!

OOORRRRRRR, maybe you'll leave it, and alter it when the show moves to OOH, and then to the dorm, and then to the cafeteria!

That's a good idea. They're in OOH episodes now, but Edna Edibles is my favorite place of the whole series. Maybe when it goes to first season of Eastland i'll change it. I'm sure I can come up with a good one for that "Lost Girl" season!

I also like Natalie’s string of temp jobs - I thought that was really clever, and opened up some story possibilities.

About Natalie & Mrs. G's unresolved talk. You know how Charlotte Rae reportedly said that she felt that the girls didn't need her for advice anymore since they were grown?...

Well how about Mrs. G being the one who went to THEM for advice now?! This was the perfect opportunity to show that just because the girls were adults, Mrs. G's existence wasn't irrelevant. She now could've gone to them for their opinions and advice with her own problems.

I would've loved for Mrs. G to go to Natalie for her perspective since she went through a similar experience with her father. She could've shown Nat the letters and asked her opinion on it. It would've only taken a couple of minutes to show the scene and could've left things resolved between them instead of hanging open the way it was.

Mrs. G leaves soon, so are we to believe Natalie was thinking inside "Good, let that harlot go! I never want to see her again!"....Poor Nat looked so crushed with the realization that Mrs. G wasn't the person she thought she was all those years. It was just sad to watch and I wish they hadn't left it like that.

It also made her more interesting than the other three. Now for the rest of the season i'll be thinking "What will Natalie be in this episode?"
