The Cliff breakup just aired! Never saw this one and it was so GOOD!!


When Mrs. Garrett told Blair she was grounded I lost it! The absurdity of it was hysterical. I may be in the minority here, but I found Blair's landlady shot to Mrs. G to be totally acceptable under the circumstances. I think we've ALL said things like that in our past that we've regretted and it's totally natural. I think Mrs. G understood that too.

But they all knew she had broken up with Cliff and that was obviously the reason for her defiant behavior. In the beginning, they all seemed to not understand that and blasted her unfairly. I found that strange.

I think they all should've given her a little more room and backed off. Sure she should've called when she went to Boston for bagels, but Mrs. G went a little too far with the housemother role there. Especially by grounding her!

She realized this in the end and I loved that final scene where Mrs. G lets Blair know that it's time she's on her own now and doesn't need her mothering anymore, but she's still there if needed. It was like she was letting one of her girls symbolically leave the nest and watch her fly!

But Tootie gets a different set of rules haha! I liked that Mrs. G freely admits there are different rules for the 4 of them and Tootie just has to accept that, and it's true. I think Mrs. G really shined in this episode with the realization that 2 of her girls are now adults with their own adult problems. It was bittersweet seeing her letting go.

And Jake McKinnon carries Blair into her room!! LOVED IT!!

This ranks up there as one of my favorite episodes. Though I wish Lisa Whelchel had taken a page out of Nancy M's acting playbook and pushed out a couple of tears in the final scene. I do love her, but it's true that dramatics aren't her strong suit. Nancy in comparison would've killed that last scene with the waterworks and hand wringing emotions.

Oh and Tootie taking the damn bus all the way to Tarrytown to see a movie was absurd. Peekskill isn't exactly the middle of nowhere and surely has movie theaters. She wouldn't need to go that far to see "The Karate Kid"!

The Elanor Roosevelt one played before this one, and was Andy's first appearance. So far I do like him. I thought he'd annoy me from memory, but he didn't at all in his first appearance here. I found him endearing...though I reserve the right to change my opinion later on!!

I think Mrs. Garrett was right. After all, Blair was under her responsibility, she cared about her. But I was surprised that Blair called Edna her landlady when we all know that Mrs. Garrett was more than a friend for the girls, she spent more time with them than their parents did. But I'm glad all was fine at the end of the episode.

I think Mrs. G realized Blair wasn't her "responsibility" anymore. The landlady line from Blair was that realization to her. You could see it on her face after it was said. That's why she went to Blair at the end and admitted she was wrong to ground her.
At 20 years old, Blair is a now a full fledged woman and she's her own responsibility now. Not to say Mrs. G doesn't care anymore, but like she said in the end, she's still there if needed, but Blair's on her own now. I loved it.

She was still wrong not to call and deserved chastising for that just like she did with cousin Geri when she stayed out all night. But grounding was just too out there and I LOL'd when Mrs. G shouted that to her.

Right?? She's not even related to Blair. It's like a friend's grandmother trying to ground you. Blair might as well have said, "I'm 19 years old---can it, granny!" lol

Yeah, it's like they were trying to remind the audience of Mrs. Garrett's role as an authority figure, but with Blair a grown woman who's no relation, it just doesn't fly, lol.

That's right! This is the Jake episode! I forgot it was coming up! Isn't it amazing what a throwaway thankless part he has here, yet he was one of the biggest stars of all the AW cast from the late '80s until the show's end in '99? Funny, lol.

That's right! This is the Jake episode! I forgot it was coming up! Isn't it amazing what a throwaway thankless part he has here, yet he was one of the biggest stars of all the AW cast from the late '80s until the show's end in '99? Funny, lol.

Tootie just had to learn for herself how terrible her play was. I wish we had at least a quick scene of her acting in it and completely bombing. It would've been so funny.

And Blair was already 20 here! At least according to Mrs. Garrett. In the end she told Tootie that "Blair is 20 and you're 16."

Holy cow! I had no idea it was just a month right before Jake the jerk arrived in Bay City---wow! (I call him that anyway from some of his behavior later on, lol)

Oh not a jerk for me. I say Jake was the best written daytime soap character ever. Everything he did that was bad, was just a reaction to the crappy things other people did to him first.

Oh, there are times when I absolutely cannot STAND his smug, self-satisfied, hostile, violent self. That said though, I agree he was VERY well-written, and extremely effective! Just in an often negative light for me, lol (the past few months I've binged AW from November 1991 to February 1993---the assisted suicide storyline and the alcoholism storyline from early '93 are very fascinating to see).

Crazy Nicole! I forgot about her! I don't remember an assisted suicide story. I tuned out from 93 to 98. I do remember the alcoholism story...that was Felicia after Lucas died right? LOVED extravagant Felicia Gallant! Another classic soap character. Boy those were the days of GREAT daytime TV!!

Yes! She started drinking in late '92, and really lost it in early '93. Some very powerful stuff there. I watched the intervention last night with Rachel, Cass, and Lorna. But she was told about it ahead of time and so "braced" for it---ouch! (and that won Linda Dano the Emmy that year!)

Ok, I saw the alcohol story and remember that. That Christy story is twisted! Kill your hubby and blame the wife of the man you really want. Oh lord, i'm glad I don't remember that one! I'll have to have a look at it on You Tube.

I found them all a couple of years ago and rewatched from '85 up to the end of '92. By then the episodes get too sporadic and not enough to follow the stories. But i'm impressed with the amount they have up there of the early 90's.

(I hope i'm not boring anyone with this....I know this isn't the daytime soap board! I should go see if they got one here of classic daytime soaps.)

All I know of that name is that she was Don Johnson's wife during the 80's. Is that Christy story up on YT? Last I watched by '93, the episodes started to dwindle...maybe they uploaded a bunch more since.
