Thumbs down Demi Lovato Hated Being A Disney Role Model For Kids

On "Demi Lovato: Stay Strong" (Tues., 10 p.m. EST on MTV) singer and actress Demi Lovato spoke extremely candidly about her insecurities and how she has struggled with being an unwilling role model for young girls.

Thrust into the spotlight at a very early age, Lovato said she started to feel fat and insecure at around the age of four.

As she became older and more famous she started to read "comments from strangers online, saying 'this girl looks horrible, she looks fat,'" which made her feel even more insecure and unhappy.

The "Camp Rock" star said of her time at the Disney Channel, "everyone just kind of made me a role model. I hated that. ... I was partying, I was self-medicating ... I was like, 'why would you want your kids to be like me?'"

The horrendous stress made Lovato feel guilty and ashamed, and she started to take it out on her body. "I harmed myself. It was my way of taking my own shame and my own guilt out on myself, and I was just depressed."

Referencing her "Stay Strong" tattoos, Lovato thanked her legions of loyal fans, the "Lovatics," who have stayed strong for her. As she remains on the road to recovery Lovato said that they inspire her as much as she inspires them.

Not that this necessarily reflects upon Demi Lovato, but I can now understand somewhat why people would have a hard time being a Disney star. It's much harder to transition to "serious" adult-acting if your childhood roles weren't all cookie-cutter, squeaky clean ones.

And apparently, there's word that people within Hollywood actually look down adults who came from Disney backgrounds. Art schools and theater/Broadway is viewed way more highly on your acting resume than Disney is.

It wouldn't surprise me of that's a big reason why Tiffany Thornton gave up on acting soon after she was finished with Disney.

When you are a star hoping for your big break it seems that Disney is the company that will help you make your mark in the big leagues of movies and television and for stars like Justin Timberlake Britney Spears Christina Aguilera it seems that Disney plans to make positive role models for everyone. Demi Lovato was destined to do the same for Disney and when she made her debut in Disney's Camp Rock Demi was soon on her way to superstardom but before she was a huge Disney star Demi Lovato was a cast member of Barney And Friends in the 90's. Soon after the success of Camp Rock being a hit movie Demi went on to release albums and made her mark on Sonny With A Chance. But after Sonny With A Chance was cancelled Demi Lovato started following her own path as many former Disney stars did when they feel that their audience is outgrowing them and started focusing on things that their former audience couldn't do and they soon became one hit wonders. The reason why I think Demi Lovato quit being associated with Disney is because she felt that they wanted to control her career and image and when you are a movie/TV star working for Disney they seem to control their careers and pointing them in the wrong direction meaning their career is over like what happened to the late Cameron Boyce. And ever since the High School Musical movie series ended you never hear about Corbin Bleu or Lucas Grabeel and Vanessa Hudgens and the only stars you hear about are Ashley Tisdale and Zac Effron. But if it wasn't for Camp Rock and Sonny With A Chance Demi Lovato would've never been huge for Disney
