Thumbs up The Dregs of Humanity episode

I loved this show. One of the episodes that stands out in my mind is The Dregs Of Humanity episode where they made up a make-believe rock band that was the school skeletons:looked like the Greatful Dead video Touch of Grey!!!!!

Excellent episode...I remember it well...this was a very funny series until the networks made them "clean up" the show...and forced Jason Bateman's charachter to suddenly get caught...and then all of his scheming was over...as was the show...

And that's my two cents...

The "Dregs of Humanity" episode of IYM. is right up there with "Operation Turkey Drop" from WKRP in Cin.

Hi! First time poster here. So glad to have found this site as it looks like a lot of fun!

I realize no one has responded to this thread in eons, but this seems to be the appropriate thread to place my info.

I just found an 8 minute clip of this ep on youtube! I would link it, but I'm not sure if it's kosher to do so. If you type in "Dregs of Humanity" on youtube, it comes up as the first hit.

It was every bit as funny as I remembered.

ITA, that this ep is up there with "Operation Turkey Drop" on WKRP.

It's funny, but any time there is a mention of this short-lived sitcom or when I come across a thread about this on the internet, there is always a reference to this episode! It seems this ep made an impression on quite a few people, for such an obscure sitcom.

I have about 8 NBC eps of It's Your Move and I thought I had that episode but I see that I don't.

That's really too bad, because that's a classic episode. But, having 8 episodes is better than none!

The show was defintely good enough to be renewed for the 1985-86 season IMO

ITA with you. I don't have any of these episodes on tape, but I always remembered Jason Bateman as having lots of talent. I was glad he snagged the role on Arrested Development, and even though it's over, he did get the critical acclaim I felt he'd one day have.

"The Dregs of Humanity" is the only specific ep of this show that I remember seeing. I remember it was a 2-part show as well. Jason Bateman wasn't out of work too long after this show was cancelled. He appeared on an ep of Mr. Belvedere in fall 1985 and then was back in the cast of a new sitcom, Valerie, in January 1986.

Bringing back an old thread...

I seem to recall that the two-parter was broken up by a long hiatus. As a kid, I waited for what felt like forever to see the conclusion to the cliffhanger.

But according to Wikipedia, the show was only delayed by a single week due to a message from Ronald Reagan. Guess one extra week feels like "forever" when you're a kid.

BUT...here's the weird thing...both Wikipedia and IMDB cite the "Dregs of Humanity" two -parter as airing on January 2 and 9, 1985, respectively. That's two consecutive weeks! Wikipedia says that the airing of Part 2 was delayed in one section, but then lists its airing as the following week in another section.

Can anyone else explain this discrepancy? Just curious. Thanks in advance!

Ahhh, that makes sense. So did it air the following week in some markets, or later the same night?

After doing some more digging, it actually only aired on the west coast that day. No it was never reaired because the show was cancelled a month later

Hmm, that's really strange. I thought for sure I remembered the episode being pre-empted but eventually seeing the second part. I think this is even more of a mystery to me now! LOL. Oh, well. Memory is a funny, unreliable thing.

Thank you for looking into this more for me!
