Default Joan "Joey" York

Many years ago now on a few previous Bewitched forums and when fandom was active, we saw a very similar attack against Dick York that you see here now. I won't mention any names, but the same old tired diatribes appeared even then.

Naturally, this bothered Joey York who would read the forums from time to time but never posted. She was, however, in touch with a member or two from those boards. And that's how I met her. Joey had a forum member tell me how she appreciated my support of Dick - which was not hard on my part. I absolutely love Dick York's performances in everything he did. He was a gifted performer.

Long story short I kept in touch with her for a while until life pulled us both in different directions. I do regret losing touch, but such is the way of things. I told her once I felt that Dick and Elizabeth had a complicated relationship, but that they challenged each other while acting and that's why they were so good together in Bewitched. She agreed with me on that.

When Dick's biography was finally publish Joey signed my copy.

And that fateful day when Dick was in the hospital Joey asked Bill Asher to let Dick quit - she knew that his health could no longer take it. She also said that ABC execs came to their house a few days later to see if there was any way York could continue.

The nasty words we've seen here and the ridiculous false history does affect people. Although I believe it is done not because of strong beliefs, but just to cause chaos and hurt. Words do have an affect on people. And I will never stop defending Dick York. I do it for Dick and for Joey who I still miss to this day.

Don't let LT get to you. He's been doing this on this forum for years. He called me a Yorkie probably about 10 years ago and I actually put it up under my name. I was proud of it. Both Liz and Dick York were responsible for the success of that show. I have nothing against Dick Sargent but he wasn't responsible for the success of Bewitched. The show was on it's last legs when he was on. Had no chemistry at all with Liz. It's wonderful that you got to know Dick's wife. Dick always seemed like a nice guy. It was awful what happened to him.

Thank you tcr1701 for posting this. This is beautiful. Joey seemed like a beautiful person. Reading those negative posts had to be difficult especially since most of it is fabricated. Larry Tate and Monliz seemed to be very unhappy people and quite disturbed. Was DY perfect? No, but even with all he went through he was a remarkable human being. The screen chemistry between EM and DY was remarkable. I'm glad Joan realized that also.

Joey was very gratified for all the people who posted support for Dick all those years ago. I think I was the most vocal - as I am here too. It does baffle me that it is still happening 16 years later, though. Creating a nasty and fictionalized history and presenting it as fact is just wrong. Some total fabrications written here have been presented as accurate to newer Bewitched fans or people looking for some history of the show. I am more than happy to help correct that. I am also glad to see others still care too.

I have to admit I have been surprised how mean and cruel these people are. I did not realize how long this has been going on. I am glad to help anyway I can to stop these sick people.

What a nice tribute to the Yorks, tcr! I enjoyed reading this story.

Do not worry about the ridiculous false history LT keeps posting. No-one here buys it. We witnessed the audio clips had been edited, which says everything.

You guys refuse to admit the truths about York, he has stated in his book that he was in love with Liz, he even talked about her leaps, legs and hair in a lecherous way, he said he and Liz got along in the in the first two seasons but then something changed and Liz grew tired of him.

And although York has admitted this you still in denial and refuse to accept it. Now, I didn't say York was a bad person, but he acted badly towards Liz and that's why she wanted him gone, that's why she stay cleared of him since the third season and had no contact with him after he left. What York did is unacceptable, I can't tolerate that inappropriate behavior towards a woman.

As for you "tcr1701", it's even more surprising your conduct, because you have York's book and you know he admitted all those things, but you still defend him at all cost, it's hilarious .

Finally figured it out. LT is jealous of DY. LT you are a perverted psycopath. Monliz, how do you think EM would feel about LT comments?

I read more of the thread. It disgusting how LT talks about EM. Her cup size, lots of photos where she has next to nothing on. He even quotes DY as saying she is sex on a stick. You are such a hypocrite.

Dick York wrote:

I first fell in love with Elizabeth Montgomery at leg distance. No that's not a typographical error, it's not long distance. By leg distance. I'd seen her on the Alfred Hitchcock or a Thriller or one of those shows...and I thought "My God, what a pretty dark-haired girl, and those legs, on my God." Hmmm. Confession time,Elizabeth.

She had full lips and dark, soft hair. She was sex all over. Still are, Lizzie. You still are. I've seen you lately, you've still got that certain thing.

This is what is what is laughable called "lecherous." York (as I quoted on a previous thread) also stated he used this to fuel his onscreen performance to make is really look like Darrin loved Samantha. It's called "Method Acting." It's a technique many, many actors use. And it worked for 5 golden years. Bill Asher stated about York (on the Youtube video I also referenced earlier) that "they (Sam & Darrin) were in love and they acted lie it. This was in comparison to Sargent and EM's work.

It should also be noted that Dick didn't write this - he dictated it onto audio cassette. He mentions (included in the final book) that he would send a copy of this to Liz before it was released in case she wanted anything edited out of the book. He mused she wouldn't cancel even half a line.

I don't know. I guess "fans" finding her sexy is not a bad thing per se, but I don't really need the lurid details of why on a public forum (which was very uncomfortable to read). I can, again, only say it's a troll campaign to create chaos and attempt to hurt people. I guess "don't feed the trolls" really is sage advice. You'd also think some "pots" would be very cautious about calling "kettles" black.

tcr1701 definitely you're the king of deflecting. We were talking about York's inappropriate behavior towards Elizabeth Montgomery, I refuted you with arguments and facts, and then you changed the subject and made it about Larry tate.

If Larry Tate finds Liz beautiful, what on earth has that to do with York's bad behavior towards Liz?

Every time Larry or me own you in a debate you change the subject, you always deflect when you have no arguments, you're ridiculous.
