Default Forgotten Mysteries: The Censored Segments

At this point, I feel like finding any more original, complete NBC broadcast recordings will become an impossible task, as folks will likely ditch their VHS, now that the show is freely available online. If you have any old VHS tapes that have Unsolved Mysteries complete episodes (Lifetime or not), please reach out to me.

After a long process of review, I've finally put together a list of core segments that I still do not have. By core segments, I mean individual cases and roll calls, but not updates. If you don't see it, that means I have it, at least the core segment, if not the whole episode. The quality varies from poor to excellent. I'm willing to trade for any of these segments. Segments with asterisks are higher priority. I know a few of you likely have these, so I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks in advance.

I will be reviewing my VHS collection soon and noting what I have.

Question for everyone here or elsewhere: is there any sort of VHS online exchange or anything? I don't want to just take things to thrift stores which barely even keep DVDs!

Too bad about the Art Jones one being missing. It's the nearest UM has ever come to my hometown. One of the people they interviewed, Sam Woncheck, who was the Chief of Police and interviewed in the segment, was friends with my mom. He even changed my little brother's diaper once haha.

So, what happened with Art Jones is, he used to own a Buick dealership, right... And his house blew sky high. Gas leak. So, they sifted through all the rubble but couldn't find him, so the theory was that since he was in some financial trouble he staged a gas explosion to disappear. Well, come to find out, that he was in fact inside the house went it blew up but he somehow survived and disoriented, he wandered through the woods and fell off a 40 foot hillside where they found his body in April of '92.

I have the episode with the Art Jones segment and I know others do as well. Really not much to it since it's a special alert segment. You see some footage from after the fire and the Chief talking about the case. Maybe not even 3 mins long.

Is there a list, and I thought based on the title of this topic, this is what it was about.. but the "Pulled" segments that are not re-aired? And speculated or known reasons why they are not reaired?

Are you willing to trade for it? Art Jones is one of my holy grail segments, even if it is just 3 minutes long. I remember the segment from my youth, being originally from PA. You say it's a complete episode? I'm willing to trade whatever I have to obtain it.

There is a pinned thread at the top of the forum, that contains a decent list of missing segments. I only recently set to work to discover which ones I actually had. I was surprised to learn that I had most of them! This list is what I don't have. I'm willing to trade for any of these segments.

The reasons for censorship have been speculated:
1) Everyone involved is dead.
2) Statute of limitations is up (robbery and rape). (Boston Rapist)
3) Family members don't want anymore publicity, for reasons 1) and 2), or time served.
4) Presentism. ("Debby" segment where Stack tells viewers not to focus on race.)
5) The segment was a hoax. (Gulf Breeze; KROQ; Brazos River)

What really gets me is all the pedophiles that were censored, like David Fisher. I mean, they have to register as sex offenders (hell, he raped and killed a little girl) so it's not like UM is ruining their already ruined lives.

Oh yeah, I remember it being that short. I was just disappointed that it wasn't included in the uploads that came from FilmRise because of my personal connection to it both as someone who knew a person interviewed and it being something so near my present location.

I know for a fact that the Art Jones segment is out there because I've seen it on a collection, but it's a very brief less than 5 minute special alert (with update). I've also seen the Lissette Nukida on one of those custom made compilations. I have never seen the Gary Gibson segment anywhere.

Do you have any leads on what compilation? I have the "Crystal Dawn" collection, in addition to some discs labeled 16,17,18,19.

Disc 16 is corrupted, yet contains the David Ivey, David Mcleod, and Danny Pinetta segments (I just realized that I don't have David Mcleod or Danny Pinetta, either). If anyone has a working Disc 16, I would be interested in that as well.

I know for a fact these are "out there" because I've definitely seen all of them years prior to Amazon Prime, and I'm 99% sure I have them somewhere in my collection. I'll take a few days to run through my stuff and see if I can dig them up for you.

ETA: I'm pretty sure I have David Ivey somewhere, if not the full segment than at least an update. But I know I don't have Danny Pinetta, although I've seen the segment several times and remember when it was online. In any event, will double check.

Would love to see this one someday. I think this and the Janet O'Regan segment may well be the only ones I've never seen.

Not too sure about the Nikida segment, but I'm fairly certain the Art Jones segment was on the one with several other special alerts featured. Unfortunately, the only link I could find that actually listed the segments per disc only goes from disc 1 to 13 and the Art Jones segment isn't listed.
