Default Urkel was only funny when he was in the presence of...

Waldo. That was the only time on the show when he actually wasn't a nerd and would look at Waldo like.........."what is wrong with him?"

I liked Urkel best in season 1 when he wasn't the star of the show but just a nerdy neighbor that you would see once in a while. I liked episodes that focused on the Winslow family, not Urkel.

Yes. He was fine in a side role, but he soon became overused.

I love Steve interactions with Waldo.

Holly

P.S. Steve-"State your name."
Waldo-"Illinois."
Steve-"No, state your name. Not name your state."
Waldo-"Oh. Waldo Faldo...from Illinois."

Waldo was very nice, but he was a complete moron. I don't know how Maxine put up with him.

Maxine was very pretty and smart. She could have had her pick of a lot of other guys.

It actually decreased her attractiveness to me

Laura was more attractive because her character was more realistic

That's true. Laura was very down to earth while Myra was over-the-top nerd who happened to be very pretty. Her personality was very annoying. Laura would have made the better girlfriend.

Me too. It really became The Steve Urkel Show which was a shame, cause I thought the Winslow’s were a great cast of characters.

Exactly, Urkel was at his best in seasons 1-3, and two of those don't include Waldo.
