In the episode where Lamont is running for state assembly man, Lamont said that he did not graduate from high school.
Teenagers that drop out from school usually do it for three reasons: They suddenly become head of family so they have to support their family. No parental supervision aka involvement in drugs/gangs. Getting pregnant. Lamont does not fit in any of above category, hence the question as why he drop out of high school. Fred was also a school drop out, so he should have known better to let that happen to his son. |

Or just bored with school. Wanted to be out already working making money , in Lamont's case working with his Dad in the family junk business ! ![]() Things were different back than early 60's when Lamont would have been in high school, if you weren't t looking to get a great job you could still get an OK job without having much education. Jobs were plentiful, the economy better and plus as I already mentioned he went to work at his Dad, Fred 's business !

I think Bonniegirl and Brady's Hair gave pretty good reasons as to why Lamont dropped out. Plus Lamont probably thought that he will eventually inherit the business, so he pretty much tied up his future to that business.

My guess is that Lamont was a dedicated student who truly wanted to complete high school with the goal of going to college- but Fred kept faking heart attacks whenever he'd try to leave for school (let's not forget that even as an adult Lamont didn't feel like chancing that the latest one wasn't fake) so THAT is why Lamont decided it wasn't worth it to keep going to school.

In the episode where Lamont tries to go to work for a nearby Junkyard he accuses his dad of taking him out of school but Fred (though not his exact words) says "You chose to."
