Confused Match Game Series

Does/did anyone else find Brett Somers to be annoying? Seems to me she was always drunk and began to grate on my nerves, so I stopped watching it!! Was she on the show because she once was married to Jack Klugman, or did someone feel sorry for her? Can't remember any shows she was on, really!!! I don't mean to sound unkind, but wondered why she was always on the panels!!

Jack Klugman was on the panel the first week and was actually the one who suggested Brett appear, and she did starting the third week. This wasn't the only game show she was on but it's definitely the one she's most remembered for.

It was an open secret that a ton of alcohol was served to the panel in between tapings. It's worth noting they would record about 12 shows in a two day period, so there you go.

Outside of Gene Rayburn and Johnny-O, Brett appeared in the most episodes of the series. She would occasionally let her ego take hold and be annoying, but producers saw early on that she brought something special to the show. Match Game was by all accounts a comedy first and game show second. To that end Brett was able to trade sarcastic quips with other regulars like Charles, Fannie, and Betty, and IMO this was one of the funniest aspects of the show. She had an attitude and sense of humor that really fit well with the laid back albeit crazy environment and I believe that's why they signed her on as a regular.

I didn't always find her annoying, but I did sometimes. I liked her overall, but she was really bad when trying to match the round 2 definitive answer. With her experience, you would of think she would of been a better player, but she didn't get too much better as the years passed. Maybe it was the alcohol. I loved her chemistry with Gene, Charles, and Richard big time.

If the Beatles were the Fab Four of the 1960's, and the cast of Seinfeld were the Fab Four of the 1990's, then Gene, Richard, Brett, and Charles were definitely the Fab Four of the 1970's. A large part of my childhood, and I still love the show today.

Love the comparison to the Fab 4!!!! They were the bouquet of this show, and permanent for the most part!! Richard started to become quite arrogant after a while, especially during his transition to hosting FF! Gene was quite a lech, considering there were a lot of minors in the audience....wasn't teaching the kids anything positive!!! Wonder what his wife thought of that!!?? Betty White wasn't always on the panel, but of them all I truly liked her!!!!

I remember when I was a kid watching Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly on Match Game. I knew they were supposed to be "celebrities", but Match Game was the only show I had ever seen either of them on back then, lol. I actually thought that Brett brought a lot to the show to help make it memorable.
