December 4, 1975. I'm just wondering why there was a 7 month gap between the pilot and debut of the spinoff. Very weird transition

Maybe they wanted to see how people would react to it before making the show.

It's possible when they did let NBC know about it, the network might have had other shows they committed to and maybe that's why they didn't debut it till later in the season.
