Default Who remembers David Hartman as an actor?

Before becoming the long-running host of ABC’s “Good Morning America”, David Hartman was an actor who appeared in both comedies and dramas.

He was on a show called “Lucas Tanner” and portrayed a teacher I think. Robbie Rist (Oliver on the Brady Bunch) was a neighbor if I remember correctly.

yea, it was on NBC in the mid 70s and I think it only ran for 1 season.

yes, I remember seeing that movie late at night once on a local station in the 70s. Barbara Eden also starred in it with Farrah Fawcett in a small role. (I think Penny Marshall was also in it)

He played a cop who had to share an apt. with a womans libber. Herb Edelman played her fiancée and Farrah Fawcet played his girlfriend.

David Hartman did an admirable job as the leading male in the 1973 never released on DVD/VHS TV remake of "Miracle On 34th Street" starring Sebastian Cabot in the lead role as Kris Kringle.

For years it was an annual local TV staple, luckily i do have the entire film in master quality uncut, obviously not as good as the original but i would definitely rate it as the second best of all the remakes of the beloved classic film.

I remember when that movie was on CBS and my impression of it is that it wasn't very good.

But I could be wrong; I haven't seen it since then.

It was just unnecessary, just like the Marlo Thomas version of “It’s a Wonderful Life”. And it had that cheap look that TV movies had back then.

I liked the re-make of "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE" (the name was "IT HAPPENED ONE CHRISTMAS") with Marlo Thomas and Wayne Rogers. Wish they'd start showing it on TV again. About 16-17 years ago Pax (which is now Ion TV) showed it once and before that it hadn't been seen on TV since the 90s when The Disney Channel used to show it every year.
I don't think it's even available on DVD.

I think one reason TV-movie versions of popular movies were made is because the originals weren’t as easily available as they are now (DVDs, cable networks, YouTube, etc.)

I remember seeing “It Happened One Christmas” before “It’s A Wonderful Life”. Speaking of the latter, it actually was a box office disappointment on its original release.

yea, I also saw IT HAPPENED ONE CHRISTMAS before I ever saw IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. I remember it was on a Sunday night on NBC.

True, IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE didn't become a hit until years later when it came to TV.

A list of David Hartman’s acting credits.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0366934/?ref_=fn_nm_nm_1

It seems that although DH could find work as an actor, he couldn’t make it to the A list. Fortunately, he found another outlet for his talent.

I remember him well from Disney's expensive but ill fated ''Island at the Top of the World'' where he brought new meaning to the word stiff.
