In some subtle ways, The Funny Side was similar to Rowan & Martin's Laugh In. NBC hit ratings gold with Laugh In, but The Funny Side was a ratings failure and cancelled after 13 weeks. Part of the problem was that The Funny Side was scheduled up against tough competition on both ABC and CBS, so the show was fighting an uphill battle and behind the 8 ball right from the start.

I would have liked to see Michael Lembeck on Rowan & Martin's Laugh In, he probably would have been good on that show. He could have been paired up with Judy Carne and they could have done skits together. Judy is my favorite Laugh In performer, she was a cutie pie. Too bad she quit the series about mid way into season 3. The series wasn't the same anymore after she left.

I watched the show and liked it, although it's hard to remember it now. I don't remember how well it worked, but the cast was extremely well chosen and likeable. Lots of great people. It was a bright and sunny type show. It was such a good idea I think I was hoping it would work better than it did. But I was also hoping the network wouldn't give up on it as soon as they did. I wanted it to come back for another season.

The Funny Side was scheduled against tough competition from both ABC and CBS, Movie Of The Week and Marcus Welby on ABC, and Hawaii Five-O and Cannon on CBS, so that's probably as good a reason as any for the series fairly quick demise. Over the years there have been lots of good shows that failed to make it through one full season because of an unfavorable time slot.
