Default When Janet and Larry pretended to be foreign house guests....

In the episode where Janet and Larry pretend to be foreign house guests who don't English and they had to pick a country WHY didn't they pick Italy?! It was already established that Janet spoke Italian pretty well in an earlier episode and Janet and Larry could both pass for Italian, just seems it would have made more sense.

I know they ended up picking France as their home country.... Seems it was also a contradiction there when Janet says she doesn't speak French...in the episode when Janet and Mr. Furley go to a French restaurant, Janet says that her French is really rusty, implying that she had probably had a basic knowledge of the language.

It was when Teri had to have her horny boss over for dinner, so she pretended that Jack was her husband.

It was the episode where Chrissy had borrowed some money from a loan shark for Jack who happened to be Italian and Jack couldn't afford to pay it back with the interest. So in exchange he agrees to teach the loan shark's wife to cook and she doesn't speak English and Janet attempts to translate for them. It turned out that his wife was all over Jack.

The reason was they needed Janet & Larry pick a language they did NOT know for the comic aspect of it. If they picked a language they knew then many laughs in the scene just wouldn't happen!

Yeah of course that is the obvious reason, just realistically it seems Janet would have been like, "Well, I speak some Italian, so....." But also I'd assumed Janet spoke some French also just by her comment to Furley at the restaurant.

I thought Larry knew some words of Greek as well if I remember right when he had some of his family members at Jack's Bistro.

I always took it as - Janet froze and panicked, so she yelled out France, even though Italy would of been the better lie. Hey, we've all been there before, no?

Yes, and I think there COULD have been some funny moments with Janet pretending to be from Italy... in the previous episode, Janet alluded to the idea that she was NOT a native Italian speaker, but spoke it some, so it would have been funny to see her trying to speak like a native but with limited vocab lol
