Default The show went downhill starting in season 3

I think the show suffered a lot when season 3 started, especially when they wrote out the characters of Grandma Kanisky and Carl's brother Ed and added new changes to the format.

It got better and hipper. The theme got better and with the times. The whole mood seemed so late 1970s when the other characters written off, and the original theme music was used.

Seasons 3-4 were the best. Seasons 1-2 were okay, but were more something out of the late 1970s with feel to them. Seasons 3-4 seemed to have that mid 1980s feel.

"The Facts of Life" had a definite late '70s feel to it as it debuted in '79, but I don't feel that with GAB. The theme music is a great early '80s theme, and one of the catchiest.

I too liked Ed, and wished he'd kept appearing.

The trouble with season 3 onward is that there were too many characters and they took away from the core family. They added Joey and Addie and Simpson and Grandpa and Jonathan and god knows who else. It reminds me of the Miller-Boyett shows where everyone and his brother gets to be in the opening credits and be a main character, no matter whether or not they are part of the family.

Agreed though the show was still good in season 3 and 4, too many characters joined the show. The show was excellent in season 1 and 2, more realistic plots, and funnier writing. The only thing that got better was the theme song.

I enjoyed the first four seasons or so, but once the original characters started disappearing, replaced by "hipper" ones, it became boring. By the time the original girls were all gone, I stopped watching. The final season is unbearably bad.

I think Season 3 was the peak of GAB...I sooooo wish that Mildred would've been on Season 3 because she, grandpa Stanley, and Joey Donovan would've had a few good eps...I think Ed should've been back for Season 5 after he heard his brother Carl passed-on.
