Viacom Acquires "Garfield"; Nickelodeon to Develop New Animated Series
by Peter White August 6, 2019 Viacom has scored a big, fat hairy deal to acquire the rights to classic cartoon "Garfield". The media group has entered a “definitive agreement” to acquire the IP from owners Paws and will develop a new "Garfield" animated series. The deal, which is expected to close in the coming weeks, will add to Nickelodeon’s library of big names including "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "Paw Patrol".
