Can someone explain why Mrs. Rickover called the Cleavers? She gets Beaver’s jacket (thinking it’s Richard’s) back from the cleaners and find’s Richard’s dirty one in the closet. There’s no name tag so how did she know it was Beaver’s?
I think at the end June is sewing in the name tag. Richard got Beaver’s jacket back to him really fast. Did I miss something? |

I'd almost have to diagram things out to figure out which jacket was where, but in the tag scene June said everything was straightened out.
So I guess I don't understand the call from Mrs. Rickover either. Funny how June bailed out though. Gotta get dinner, Ward, you talk to her... |

June always bailed out. I missed the epilogue this most recent time so didn’t remember June said everything was straightened out. Maybe she meant they both got their own jackets. Mrs. R was still in the dark.

Richard's mom was still clueless about the jackets. Beaver got the clean one and Richard's mom found Richard's dirty jacket where he had hid it. The boys had the correct jackets at the end of the episode.

So, I breezed thru the episode to see exactly how it went down.
Richard loses his jacket at a house being built on Madison St. Later he and Beaver are talking and Richard suggests that, to keep him out of trouble, that he come home with Beaver and Beaver toss the jacket (Beaver's) to him to wear home, and the next morning Richard will come over and give Beaver the jacket back. Beaver hauls the jacket up on a rope, to the bathroom window. One morning June notices a spot on the jacket. Next morning Richard is late, and eventually rings the bell. He goes upstairs and tells Beaver his mother saw the spot and sent the jacket (Beaver's, though she still doesn't know it) to the cleaners. He suggests Beaver wear a sweater that day. One evening Richard calls to tell Beaver he got his jacket back from the lost and found and hid it in the garage, since his mother still thinks the other jacket at the cleaners is Richard's. Beaver asks why he didn't just straighten it out and he still thinks he'd get in trouble. So the next morning Richard brings the jacket he had hidden (his jacket), over for Beaver to wear. This time Ward sees it being hauled up on the rope, and Beaver is nailed. He and June ask to see the jacket, and evidently before Richard lost it, his mother had sewn his name in it. At the end June is sewing Beaver's name into his jacket. Ward asks if it's the right one, and June tells him Beaver had picked it up at Richard's. The phone rings, and it's Mrs. Rickover. June tells Ward Mrs. Rickover got Richard's jacket back from the cleaners and she looked in the closet and there's a dirty one hanging there and she thinks it's Beaver's. So we have to assume Beaver picked up his cleaned jacket and either Mrs. Rickover wasn't home or was out of the room and didn't know Beaver picked it up. And for some reason Richard didn't tell her. We assume she was told about the whole mess at some point or she wouldn't think the one in the closet was Beaver's. |

Wow that’s more complicated than I thought. This part I forgot:
So the next morning Richard brings the jacket he had hidden (his jacket), over for Beaver to wear. This time Ward sees it being hauled up on the rope, and Beaver is nailed. He and June ask to see the jacket, and evidently before Richard lost it, his mother had sewn his name in it. (Wonder how come some kid stole it then returned it) So Mrs. R had Beaver’s jacket cleaned and never noticed “no” name tag she had sewn in. I guess now she’ll have to pay to get Richard’s cleaned. Still I don’t know why she thought the one in the closet was Beaver’s unless she knew they both had the same ones. Thanks for the rundown on the missing jacket caper! |

In the phone conversation with Mrs. Rickover maybe Ward offered to have Richard's jacket cleaned.
As far as the jacket being at the lost and found goes, maybe Richard was behind the house and some kid found it without seeing him, and turned it in to the Mayfield Lost and Found (or the school L&F, wherever this L&F was). So maybe Richard thought it was ripped off and it wasn't. Richard loses too much stuff, first he's blowin' his nose too hard and loses the laundry money, then his jacket. He loses almost as much as Beaver. |

Very true but this part bugs me: The phones rings, and it's Mrs. Rickover. June tells Ward Mrs. Rickover got Richard's jacket back from the cleaners and “she looked in the closet and there's a dirty one hanging there” and she thinks it's Beaver's.
It’s like it just happened so how could Richard get that jacket from her hot little hands and hand it over to Beaver without an explanation so she wouldn’t have to call June. However June has the jacket in her hands. I think Mrs. R should have just asked her son not call June but it was funny when Ward took the phone. “Hello Mrs. Rickover well get a good hold on that jacket. Like he told June to get a good hold on your afghan when he had to explain in Train Trip. I’m just beating a dead horse. At least the whole mixup worked pretty well. |

It was a mixed up mess all right. They probably should have skipped that phone call at the end. Wasn't needed and just mixed it up a step too far.

Yes. She knew it was the same Jackets, because Remember Beaver wanted Richard to stay a little longer at the cleavers to show Mr and Mrs. Cleaver Richards Jacket. Then Beaver talked his dad into letting him get one too.

Richard and Gilbert drove me nuts because they were always giving Beaver the business and trying to pull one over on him.
