Just curious if any fans of the original show liked the version from a few years ago?

I had a positive outlook when they brought this show back to the air, but it was too sexually overtoned for me. My favorite episode was when the original cast returned for Vicky's wedding.

I actually watched many episodes of the new Love Boat in syndication, and it wasn't that bad. It was more of a baywatch-type of show, but it was still good.

Unfortunatley I don't think UPN ever gave Love Boat:The Next
Wave much of a chance to gain an audience. As far as it goes,I really rather liked it a lot and wish they had kept it at least for a third season. My fave character was the ship's head of security. |

I only saw maybe one or two episodes before I realized it the show was off the air. The episodes I saw and remembered were okay.

I want to see the one where ALF made a guest appearance. I have never seen any episode of the recent version of Love Boat.

I cannot figure out why UPN chose to remake The Love Boat in the first place? When Mom and I saw The Love Boat The Next Wave when it first aired I couldn't believe my eyes that a sitcom classic got ruined. From the second episode "which was the very first episode we saw " This new version of The Love Boat lacked the comedy that the original The Love Boat had and instead turned it into a soap opera/romance type show and the only saving grace was Robert Urich. Another thing about The Love Boat The Next Wave is that the theme song was also ruined by turning it into a reggae version of the theme and what they could've done was have Jack Jones sing a new version of The Love Boat theme rather than have a reggae version of the theme. I don't know how The Love Boat The Next Wave survived to have a second season but after watching that episode that I mentioned earlier Mom and I gave up and never watched it again. My advice if you want to see The Love Boat go watch it on METV and avoid The Love Boat The Next Wave

No, The late 1990s revival of the Love Boat titled “The Next Wave” cant eclipsed the original 1977-1986 version of The Love Boat though.

I was just going to post a thread asking if an updated version of The Love Boat would work today. I vaguely, vaguely remember the other version and I don't think I ever watched it. I could see a new version being mildly successful if they followed the same formula as the original. Apparently their first attempt did not but now I'm curious to see it.

I remember when the original cast guest starred and they tried to convince us that Julie and Doc were in love all along. WRONG. It was Julie and Gopher. And they only reason they said it was Julie and Doc was because they couldn’t get Fred Grandy (Gopher) to appear in that episode.
