Default Dobie Gray- "Find Em, Fool Em, & Forget Em"

Dobie Gray's most popular Billboard hit is "Drift Away", #5 hit in 1973. In October 1976, he charted with the tune "Find Em, Fool Em, & Forget Em", but this one stalled all the way down at the #94 spot. It's a cool song and it sounds like a top ten hit to me, I imagine it probably didn't get the promotion it deserved at the time.

It's a snappy tune, I don't believe I've ever heard it before. The 70's had so many cool songs.

I found out about the song by doing research in the book "Billboard Top Pop Singles 1955-1996". I discovered several other good songs too, songs that charted on the hot 100 but didn't break into the top 40.

The 70's was a great decade for hit music, the songwriting was so creative then.

I was looking to see just what songs were popular in October 1976. WOW, what a line up, it's not hard to see how Dobie Gray failed to chart as most of the songs are still being played on oldies stations today. It seems the 1970's just had way too many great songs ;-) and some were bound to get lost in the shuffle. It might have been even worse in the 1960's

like this song for instance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-HxghCGJ-s

In the case of "Find Em, Fool Em, & Forget Em", I think the song probably just wasn't promoted properly and that's why it wasn't a big hit. It sure sounds like a hit, definitely worthy of doing much better than #94, what a shame.

The flip side of the 45 is a song titled "Mellow Man", it's a pretty cool tune as well, it has a reggae style sound to it.
