Default Who else here does NOT find Seinfeld funny?

I grew up on Three's Company, The Jeffersons, Gilligan's Island, Too Close For Comfort, Bewitched, Family Ties, Different Strokes, and Fresh Prince. Some of those I saw in reruns and some first run.

Those are my favorites and I like that style and type of comedy but I've tried watching Seinfeld multiple times and I BARELY if ever laugh! Seinfeld is TOTALLY different style of comedy than those sitcom favorites I grew up on right?

I mean what's funny about Jerry complaining or WHINING in a high pitched voice?? Kramer tries to be funny but it often falls flat. That bald chubby guy and that lady are barely funny at BEST.

To think that some people say this is the funniest show ever is almost CRIMINAL if it wasn't so INSANE! Seinfeld couldn't even hold Jack Tripper's jockstrap because Jack Tripper was infinitely more funny than Seinfeld in his wildest DREAMS!

P.S. If you do a search for "Seinfeld is NOT funny" you get almost 10 MILLION results!

So you don't like it? So what, a lot of us do including me. That's the thing about sitcoms and humor a lot of it's subjective. You don't like Seinfeld that's fine then don't watch it. It's as simple as that.

I remember it's original run during the 90's. Friends would rave about it and I tuned in a few times to see what it was all about. I just didn't "get" it. I found it boring and dumb and never watched again. At this time, I was in my early 20's and found it to be an "adult" show since all the characters were a generation older than me and that type of show just didn't interest me in the slightest.

At the time, I was into shows like Roseanne, 90210, Melrose Place, Friends, Living Single etc. Those were characters and themes I could identify with and relate. I just couldn't relate to Seinfeld at all.

It wasn't until about 5 years ago that I began tuning into Seinfeld reruns late at night. I started to get into it and this time I "got" it and found it funny. Not hilarious laugh out loud funny, but a chuckle here and there funny. It's no masterpiece in my opinion and I think it's way overblown to call it one of the best sitcoms ever like I see in so many lists.

I wouldn't even place it in my top 20 of favorite sitcoms...but many out there think it's the greatest show ever and that's ok too. I don't have to agree with them.

At the time there were two camps. Those who found Home Improvement funny, and those who found Seinfeld funny. I thought Home Improvement was as funny as a Root Canal, but it consistently beat Seinfeld in the overnight ratings.

My favorite episode is The Library, who can ever forget Marion's epic poem?

Loved Seinfeld back in the day and think it's even funnier now in an era of hyper political correctness. That said, some of the humor may not work for younger people; the O.J. case jokes, Steinbrenner, the magic bullet/spitball bit, all the Mets and Yankees gags and guest stars. People born after those things happened may not get it.

I never liked Three's Company or The Jeffersons. I did like Family Ties. Home Improvement was funny in the beginning, but how many times could Tim Allen grunt and tell "more power" jokes and it still be funny? I think Tim Allen by himself is funny, but that show was never that great. By the 90s, the kids that grew up with family sitcoms were looking for something different and they got it with Seinfeld, but it's ok if someone doesn't like it. I despise M*A*S*H, but almost everybody else thinks it's hilarious.

I was expecting something special after reading the Wikipedia entry that the show is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential sitcoms of all time, but after watching this snippet it just goes to show that the Writers Guild have an inflated sense of their own importance along with many others in the industry. https://youtu.be/PaPxSsK6ZQA

With me Seinfeld is a "certain episodes" kind of show. Like that airplane trip, where Jerry gets the first class treatment, there are just loads of laughs in that episode. Chinese restaurant, Soup Nazi, the kookie tax accountant. Certain scenes, like an episode where Kramer is getting Jerry illegal cable, and Jerry's former date gets in his face and reads him the riot act...how does he keep a straight face? The scene where Jerry and George are at the NBC president's apt., selling him on their pilot, and he's sick from the food Elaine sneezed on. The heaving just cracks me up. George trying to keep his girlfriend from hearing her answer machine, with his silly messages...loved it. The library cop reading Jerry the riot act...hilarious. George's faux heart attack and the visit to the holistic "doctor", LOL.

But other episodes other people rave about, ugh. Like the bubble boy...unwatchable, to me. And in the 90s, everyone going nuts over yada, yada. Please, overblown.

And don't get me started on that final episode. Ugh.

See, I never got into Gilligan's Island, Bewitched or Three's Company. I think Too Close for Comfort and Diff'rent Strokes are fine shows but to me they can't hold a candle to Seinfeld. Pretty much all the episodes are funny, imo. I think it's one of the greatest shows ever. But to each his own.

What Bewitched did you see? The Dick Sargent era isn't nearly as good, but the Dick York seasons are some of TV's best comedy.

LOL! I didn't like Bubble Boy either, and the finale was AWFUL! I've only seen it once--the first night it aired.

I agree that the Dick York episodes were the best. It's kind of like the best Three's Company episodes were with Terri and Cindy as the blonde roommates. Not that there weren't good episodes with Chrissy because there were. It's just that the Terri/Cindy episodes were the best.

Of course Jack Tripper was the KEY to the entire show!

Never cared for either Seinfeld or Friends. Found neither funny and both overrated.

I never really hated or fell head over heels with the show—so I never understood all the hoopla.

My dream show from 1990 on is WINGS, which I’d take ANY DAY over Seinfeld.

It’s not a favorite but I find it funny. To me Jerry is the straight man for the other three especially George and Kramer. George to me was the star of the show.

I for one never thought Three’s Company was all that great. Pretty stupid show actually. It’s one ‘s opinion.
