As we await the inevitable ratings collapse for CBS after the end of The Big Bang Theory, I have a few questions:
1. How come Hawaii Five-Zero and Blue Bloods can't both be "Final Season" next year? Probably for fear of too many veteran series ending after the same year (with Criminal Minds already slated to end)? Also, how many seasons will Blue Bloods (which has always skewed older throughout its run) realistically have before it ends? Going past 10 seasons? 2. Instead of another season of Man with a Plan, how about ordering a Howard and Bernadette spinoff of TBBT next year? Also, why demote Mom to a hammock slot? Otherwise, we should be having Mom at 9:00 and Carol's Second Act at 9:30. 3. I'm worried that CBS may dump NCIS: LA after the current season, because of its sinking viewership and being moved around the schedule. We still haven't had a "Hanna, S." episode, but we've had "Callen, G.", "Lange, H.", "Blye, K.", and even a "Granger, O." in past seasons. If their renewals for 2019-20 are confirmed, I think the NCIS spinoffs (maybe the whole franchise) will get at least two more seasons each. |

Carol's Second Act I put at 9:00 since that is where Patricia Heaton's former hit Everybody Loves Raymond dominated. Mom is unowned and might just have 2 seasons left, after its current 2 year renewal I could definitely see it ending in 2021. Mom definitely won't get near the 12 seasons bigger Chuck Lorre shows Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory ended with. While Mom has done well on Thursdays, a lot of that is halo effect from The Big Bang Theory leading off the night, which will disappear after May. There is no need to end Blue Bloods any time soon. It is fully owned and does well in syndication. The more seasons Blue Bloods gets the more money CBS makes off it. And creatively it hasn't lost anything, Blue Bloods is a rare show that gets better with age. Unlike Blue Bloods, Hawaii 5-0 was a disaster in syndication. TNT couldn't wait to get rid of it. Man With a Plan benefits from the 3rd season syndication rule. Fully owned shows with 3 seasons almost always get a 4th season.

Just because something is owned doesn't always mean they can keep their original runs going just for the sake of it, even if it means dumping it without a series finale to make room for a new show. I don't hate Blue Bloods or watch it, but if Blue Bloods aired on a different night, it probably wouldn't be skewing as old. When it comes time for Blue Bloods to end, I hope Len Cariou is still alive.
Also, Man with a Plan's current third season is not even a full one; It's only 13 episodes. Last time I checked, three full seasons will get a show a fourth season. I bet CBS really is punishing Man with a Plan for getting 2BG cancelled in 2017. And The Neighborhood has one former 2BG star in its main cast. I have always wanted a fully-owned sitcom on CBS to be the network's top comedy for some time, I don't see it being Man with a Plan or The Neighborhood. I hate their current slate of owned sitcoms. Carol's Second Act better not be produced by Warner Bros.. There'll come a day when a network will air zero shows from outside studios. And what if the ratings for Mom hold up during seasons 7 and 8, anchor slot or not? Realistically, I don't see its run going past 10, either. |

An 0.9 demo is excellent for Fridays, Blue Bloods did that last week and made a tie for #19. If CBS wanted 2 Broke Girls to continue they would have renewed it. You might hate Man With a Plan for replacing 2BG, but I don't think CBS does. I added MWAP to my schedule last week and have caught up on all the season 3 episodes, it is a good show. And being fully owned gave it an advantage over Kevin Can Wait, which many had thought would get renewed for season 3 instead.

Million Dollar Mile is being moved to Saturdays after two episodes of dismal viewership in its Wednesday timeslot, and the premiere of The Amazing Race is being moved up, to April 17. MDM will start airing the remaining eight episodes of its 10-episode season on May 4, at 8 pm, with Ransom being moved back an hour, to 9 pm.

Lots of news coming from CBS today. 6 dramas renewed: Seal Team, S.W.A.T., Madam Secretary, Bull (despite Stephen Spielberg withdrawing from the show), and the MacGyver and Hawaii 5-0 refakes. 60 Minutes and 48 Hours also officially renewed but I would consider that a given every year barring a surprise cancellation announcement. They have also picked up 7 new series so far. FBI: Most Wanted spin-off, courtroom drama All Rise, and Evil from the Good Wife creators are the new dramas. The 4 new comedies are Patricia Heaton in Carol's Second Act (could be her 3rd hit comedy after Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle!), Pauley Perrette's new comedy Broke, Bob Hearts Abishola from Chuck Lorre and starring Billy Gardell. The 4th new comedy is an awful sounding one called The Unicorn with no notable cast members, that has flop written all over it. Veteran shows with undetermined fates as of yet include Man With a Plan, Life in Pieces, Fam, The Code, and The Red Line. MWAP I would still consider a lock for renewal being fully owned in its 3rd season, I think it will get to at least 5 seasons. LIP hopefully gets renewed but being unowned and poor treatment this year does not help, possibility of going to ABC if CBS cancels. I like The Code but it is likely a goner having been advertised a ton and getting mediocre ratings from the start. Red Line never should have been picked up, it will be quickly forgotten by most. If Fam gets cancelled Odessa Adlon needs to headline a new show, she was my main reason for staying with it. And the awful Murphy Brown revival has been dead for awhile but it will be nice to see an official cancellation for that dreck.

Any idea on why CBS this season got rid of their "Only CBS" slogan they've been using for the past several years?
