Default What has happened to kids now?

I'm noticing that today's kids have changed and I would like to know why this is? Is this because the children today are being raised differently than children today? Because I'm noticed that whenever i'm at the mall or at any store I have noticed that today's kids are not being coached on behavior or manners and it surprises me that this is the way children are raised today. Take for instance I go to Walmart and everytime I go there I see toddlers crying and screaming throughout the store all because they either want a candy bar or a toy and while the kids are screaming and throwing a fit the parents ignore the crying and annoying screaming child and continue shopping and mind their own business and to me the parents should at least try to do something and move to another part of the store and try to calm their child down. When I was a little girl I rarely threw tantrums in public and cried but it shocks me that parents are raising their kids like this today. A second thing I noticed about kids today is how the kids are coached on behavior and it seems that anytime that kids misbehave the parents always like to holler yell and use profanity and swear and curse at the kids to get them to listen and I think parents should treat kids with respect and not swear and use profanity and holler and remind kids to use proper manners. A third thing I noticed about today's kids when you dine at a restaurant you can never finish a meal with hearing kids screaming and crying and rather than focusing on eating the kids start clowning around and then starting a game of chase and start chasing each other around and the parents don't care and continue eating and then when it's eating time the parents force the kids to eat all their food and then the kids start playing with their food and stuffing food in their mouths and the parents don't even coach the kids on proper behavior while eating and then when the kids don't want to eat all their food they end up throwing it on the floor and cry their heads off and the parents ignore it. A third and final thing I noticed about kids today is that when parents take their kids shopping they don't care about their kids safety. Take for instance I go to the mall and I see toddlers running up and down screaming throughout the mall and the parents don't watch if their child gets run over or hurt and when I go to the store I see toddlers sticking their neck out like a giraffe or an elephant raising it's trunk in the shopping cart and I can see a child falling out of the shopping cart and injuring his neck or head. Take for example when my cousin was a toddler he nearly broke his neck when he was clowning around a clothing rack at Big Lots and my mom and my aunt didn't notice and he bopped his head and it shocks me that when I see scenes like this parents should remind their kids not to do tricks like this as it's a sign of bad behavior. Is this the new way that kids are raised today?

Part of the problem is you can no longer spank your child in public when they misbehave. Someone will report you if you do. It's the same for teachers trying to control rowdy kids. When I was growing up you got spanked if you misbehaved and it usually hurt which made you want to avoid it. The kids know they can get away with murder and there's not a lot you can do about it. You can do the time-out option but that's not much of a punishment.

Society has changed. People do not accept responsibility for anything. Everyone is "entitled". This began in the 1960's with Lyndon Johnson's welfare state. People received free housing, free food, free medical care. Unwed parents used to be shameful. Now it's an honor. Something like 80% of black parents aren't married. This spread to the rest of society. Now children have no fathers and no discipline.

And I’ll also add that the parents today are still “kids” themselves. They continue to live their life as a “kid” and don’t grow up and put their childrens’ needs first.

Another habit that kids have that I don't know why parents don't correct their kids behavior and manners is when parents are trying to have a conversation or watch TV is that the kids talk talk talk and if you're trying to watch a movie in the theater you can't hear the movie because the kids talking drowns out the movie or TV show and the conversation. And when kids today talk too much you never hear the parents tell the kids to be quiet and not to talk when a person is having a conversation and I noticed this when parents are on the telephone talking to someone and the kids are constantly asking for food or talk too much and parents should tell the kids things like "Matthew will you be quiet and not disturb your mom while she's on the phone" or "Christopher you can fix yourself a sandwich while Mom is on the phone with Grandma Bessie" and if you told kids not to disturb you while you were on the phone you can bet little Matthew and Christopher would be rewarded with snacks for good behavior. I never noticed that kids today have turned themselves into chatterboxes while the kids of the past generations have been shy. Another thing I've seen with parents mainly with toddlers is that anytime a toddler causes bad behavior for no reason the parents like to punish the toddler and ground them for no reason and I can't understand why parents ground toddlers and punish them for something that they didn't do in the first place. Many times I noticed this the parents do this they say things like "Howie if you don't eat your food you will never get your teddy bear back" and then when the toddler doesn't listen the parents go ahead and take Teddy away and then you're stuck with a screaming crying toddler and when I have noticed this it surprises me that today's kids are raised like this and you cannot take a teddy bear away from a toddler as a punishment. Take for instance my mom's cousin would always get what he wanted but when he would act up in public he would throw fits and would kick and scream if he couldn't get what he asked for and would annoy my great aunt so much she would take his toy away and ground him when he was little. And so it tells me that this is the new style of kids today

It seems to me that some of the younger generation of parents are too distracted with technology to effectively parent. Kids are growing up not getting the attention they need and deserve so they are acting out.

Oh No

I was at a second-hand store last week and a toddler just keeps running all over the place and they didn't try to find him, but if that was my child...he's getting sent to his room for the age that they are.

Society says "spare the rod, spoil the child"...but if we do that, we let the kid walk all over us! And if we dare tell that kid he's doing wrong as we see...

This is the **** that'll go down...

A kid will now rat on their parents with their phone now by just telling them "no"...why can't they wake up?

Another thing that i've seen parents do with their kids in public is teaching them to be quiet in places like malls but the kids don't listen and be rowdy and loud anyway and when the parents notice this they always tell the kids to use "library voices" and I don't know why parents are doing this anyway to their kids. The kids are not in a library and when you take your kids to the mall they should make as little noise as possible and I have also seen this happen many times at amusement parks as well. I have also noticed the way how parents coach the kids at dinner and let's say you want to make the kids eat the same meals Mom and Dad are eating but the kids want to eat something else and when parents don't want to do this they say things like "Katie you're not eating macaroni and cheese you are eating what we feed you" and in your mind if little Katie wants macaroni and cheese you should let her have it anyway. Another thing about kids and dinnertime is that just like I mentioned earlier the parents always correct their kids eating habits and when the kids are trying to eat their food the parents look at their kids with eagle eyes and tell the kids to eat their meal faster while yelling things like "JASON HURRY UP AND EAT YOUR FOOD" or "Jody we do not eat slow at the table" Let's face it lots of kids are picky eaters and you shouldn't coach your kids on how to eat properly when little Jason and Jody should be able to eat their food at their own paces and if the kids don't want to eat the same meals as Mom and Dad you should at least give the kids the chance to eat something they like. I am surprised that this is the way kids are being raised today and if I ever have children of my own I'm gonna raise my children with respect and manners

If I ever have a family...a BIG IF...I'm afraid to give a child of mine a cell phone...I may only give them a basic phone just in case a total stranger drags my child somewhere, so they can call the cops and me!

I am SO glad I opted never to have children for this very reason. Ugh... I agree with everything that has been said. My best friend in high school told me once that she acted up in the grocery store with her mom and her mom spanked her butt. It taught her a lesson because she never did it again. I have no problem with spanking as long as it's not abusive. I was spanked all the time as a kid by both of my parents. But it does bother me a little to see a parent do that out in public, even if the kid does deserve it. Not sure why it bothers me, however.

Another thing I have noticed a lot that parents seem to do a lot with kids that I think causes the kids a lot of stress and parents should not continue to do this is that during certain times especially when the parents have important plans that involve the whole family such as vacations is always hurrying the kids out of bed when an important event that forces you to get up early happens and I think that this disrupts children's sleeping habits and the kids should just sleep in and when kids are forced to get up early they get up cranky and stressed and don't know why they have to wake up early. And when parents have to get the kids up early the kids always are so tired that they forget to do things because the parents rush them all the time. Like if you are going on vacation and you have to pack and go catch an early flight the kids should be the last thing on your mind and when you tell the kids that the family has to hurry up and leave on a trip you should get the kids later after the luggage and everything is loaded in the family car to give the kids an extra hour to sleep longer. A second thing that occurs when an early start happens with kids that is not the kids fault but rather the parent's fault is that parents always force their kids to use the bathroom before they can go on a trip and when the kids use the bathroom they are so stressed that they cannot use the toilet and when that happens kids get scolded for not using the toilet and when I see this it shocks me so much that parents do this to their kids when they go on vacations. I mean don't parents realize that by doing this can make kids stressed and they should know that kids have certain routines and should not be treated like teenagers? Another habit that parents do especially when they are on vacation relaxing in a hotel or motel is that they let the kids be noisy at all times of the day and night and in every single hotel or motel i've stayed in I have trouble sleeping because kids are always making THUMP THUMP THUMP noises like a herd of elephants all around the hall and screaming their heads off and don't obey the hotel rules of not disturbing guests while they're sleeping. I also noticed in hotels and motels that kids are even more noisier in the hotel swimming pool and you can never go swimming in peace without hearing kids horsing around the pool or chasing each other around the pool screaming and howling and to me the hotel staff should warn the parents that if kids are noisy in the hotel or motel the parents should keep the kids quiet or the parents can be forced to leave the hotel or motel and hotels and motels should be places for families with older children not toddler age kids and parents should go stay at a campground if they want the toddlers to run around making all the noise they want
