TV FX's "Legion" To End after 3rd Season

FX Renews "Legion" — But There's a Catch
by Sadie Gennis
March 15, 2017

FX has ordered a second season of "Legion", the network announced Wednesday.

However, fans of the surreal drama will have to wait a while to figure out what's next for David Haller (Dan Stevens), as "Legion's" second season won't premiere until 2018.

"The first season of Legion was a stunning achievement," Eric Schrier, FX's president of original programming, said in a statement.

"More than a new series, Legion is a wholly original take on the super hero genre. Our thanks to Noah Hawley for taking the creative risks and shattering expectations. It's a privilege to work again with Noah, his producing partners, the outstanding cast and our partners at Marvel Television on another season of Legion."

Based on the Marvel comics, "Legion" follows David after he realizes that the voices in his head aren't because he's schizophrenic -- he's a mutant. With the help of his girlfriend and fellow mutant Syd (Rachel Keller), David winds up under the tutelage of Melanie Bird (Jean Smart), a therapist with unconventional methods and a unique team of specialists who aim to help David learn to control his powers and stay safe.

"Legion" is executive-produced by Noah Hawley, who also helms "Fargo" for FX.

FX Sets April 2018 Premiere for "Legion" Season 2
by Nick Romano
Feb. 6, 2018

Prepare yourselves to trip back through the psychedelic mind of David Haller (Dan Stevens) when "Legion" season 2 premieres in just two months.

FX announced Tuesday that Noah Hawley’s mind-warping X-Men-based drama series will return with new episodes on Tuesday, April 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

This means we’ll finally find out what happened to the all-powerful psychic mutant, last seen getting sucked into a strange mechanical ball and floating off to the unknown.

Meanwhile, Jemaine Clemente’s Oliver found himself the new host of Amahl Farouk (a.k.a. the Shadow King) as they hit the road in search of “someplace warm.

In addition to a new still image, FX offered more clues on what to expect with the season 2 return:

With David and Oliver missing and Farouk on the loose, the team forms an unlikely alliance with their former enemy ‘Clark’ (Hamish Linklater) and his well-funded government organization, Division III. Meanwhile, Amahl Farouk (Navid Negahban) is on a new path to attaining infinite and world-ending power.

Farouk commonly took the form of Aubrey Plaza’s Lenny in Season 1 while feeding off of David, who mistook his telepathic powers for schizophrenia. Negahban (Homeland) will now appear in the role for season 2, alongside Plaza’s return.

Lenny and Oliver are being used by this character, Amahl Farouk,” Hawley, an executive producer, told EW. “He wears their faces from time to time. It’s his way of hiding himself. I had this thought of, ‘What does Freddy Krueger do during the day?’

I thought it was interesting, the idea of the downtime of these characters. They’re not being used and so what is reality like for them? They’re being placated, that they’re in some place beautiful that may not actually be a physical space, it may be a mental space, like an astral plane. They have everything they need, they’re by the pool, it’s beautiful, but at a certain point, there’s part of them that realizes that they’re just trapped in this reality they don’t have any control over.

Rachel Keller, Jeremie Harris, Bill Irwin, and Jean Smart will also return.

"Legion" Renewed for Season 3 at FX
by Denise Petski
June 1, 2018

Ahead of the Season 2 finale, FX has ordered a third season of its praised X-Men universe-themed drama series "Legion" for a premiere in 2019.

Two episodes remain in the second season, including a recently announced additional 11th episode.

Legion has redefined the superhero drama and exceeded all expectations as the intensity and revelation build through the second season,” said Eric Schrier, president of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions.

We are incredibly proud of Noah Hawley’s achievement and are honored to continue the series as it pushes the boundaries of conventional television storytelling. We are also grateful for the contributions of our executive producers, John Cameron, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, and Jeph Loeb with Marvel Television, as well as our outstanding cast and crew of this groundbreaking show.
