Is this the reason Victoria and left never to return

As I understand it when Dallas premiered in 1978 it was based on the premise that Victoria's character's Pamela was going to be the key figure in the series. The show was about the star crossed marriage of rival families. As the series developed the relationship between Sue Ellen and JR became the key . The intensity of JR and Sue Ellen became the heart of the show. In fact Linda Gray over took Victoria Principal as one of the key female figure in the show. People just moved towards Sue Ellen then Pamela. Sue Ellen faced alcoholism adultry single motherhood. I can imagine that this did create some resentment by Victoria on how the character. In fact Pamela's character was not well developed after the 1982-1983 season to point the character became weak and whining about losing Bobby and Mark. I did not like jenna either because she appeared to play a victim.

My favorite females: Miss Ellie, Sue Ellen and Donna

I liked Jenna at least as much as Pam if not more.

J.R and Sue Ellen became the key characters because they were played by better actors and their characters were more interesting. The star-crossed lovers story is in every soap opera so everybody had seen it already. Plus, in Dallas it never made any sense for Bobby to be the one to marry someone the Ewings disapproved of because he was not the rebellious one. I never could stand Pam or Victoria Principal.

I think that's rather harsh. Victoria had to play a character who maintained a foothold in both camps so to speak and had to act the part accordingly. As the years progressed the scripts became less and less engaging. Did she struggle with an eating disorder towards the end of her run: I have my suspicions.

So who should've married Pam? J.R.?? He was pretty rebellious but would NEVER marry into the Barnes family!

That leaves Ray who was not only not rebellious but was boring as hell!

In a further twist Ray was dating Pamela at the start of the Dallas saga. We won't go into the legal situation of his trysts with Lucy before he discovered he was Jock's natural son.

Ray was pretty disgusting. I always thought they could've found a better actor to play him. I'm not saying Charlene Tilton was bad but she was almost a midget!

Why not get a normal sized woman to play her?

The writers were found wanting, not the actors. Charlene Tilton was believable as the daughter of Gary and Valene, but her storyline just seemed to fizzle out and she was packed off to Atlanta with Mitch. Ray was a down-to-earth Texan who had a feel for cattle ranching, but the Down's Syndrome storyline killed off the show.

What do you mean the writers were found wanting??

The Down Syndrome storyline was bad but that was about Ray and Donna and they were peripheral characters not main characters so that didn't kill off the show.

I mean the writers got stuck in the rut that J.R became typecast as the villain, the new characters of Rebecca and Katherine Wentworth, Clayton Farlow, Mickey Trotter, Peter Richards and Mandy Winger never settled, there was that ridiculous South American storyline, then Bobby's death and resurrection. Need I go on..

You mean that Angelica Nero storyline right? I thought that was quite interesting and it was good to get away from Dallas for a change. Too bad that was all wiped out due to the "dream season"!
