Default Why is The Chain the worst 70s song of all time?

I just feel like The Chain is an abomination to 70s songs. Post a comment if you realize how bad of a song The Chain is.

If "The Chain" is the worst 70's song of all time then I dread knowing what you think is the best. I could probably come up with 1000 or more 70's songs that are far worse, but due to time constraints I'll give you these 10:

#1. ("You're) Having My Baby" - Paul Anka & Odia Coates
#2. "You And Me Against the World" - Helen Reddy
#3. "Undercover Angel" - Alan O'Day
#4. "A Horse with No Name" - America
#5. "I've Never Been to Me" - Charlene
#6. "Jeans On" - David Dundas
#7. "Muskrat Love" - Captain & Tennille
#8 "Afternoon Delight" - Starland Vocal Band
#9. "My Ding-a-Ling" - Chuck Berry
#10. "Chuck E's In Love" - Rickie Lee Jones

#1. Melody wise, this is a decent song but I can see why some people don't like it. Paul Anka does some bad singing towards the end of the song which doesn't help any.
#2. Melody wise, not a bad song but the spoken word parts are lame.
#3. I agree, not a good song. I prefer Dean Friedman's "Ariel" instead.
#4. I think this is a decent song and don't really see anything wrong with it except maybe it might drag on a little too long.
#5. I've never heard this song so can't comment about it.
#6. I agree, not a good song, lame.
#7. I agree, not a good song, this one is lame too. It was all downhill for Captain & Tennille from this point forward.
#8. Melody wise, not a bad song but I can see why some could find it annoying.
#9. I agree, not a good song.
#10. I can tolerate this song but I don't like the middle part when she strums on the guitar and sings those dumb sounding lyrics. That part is lame.

I've heard that song one time in my whole life and it made me cry like a baby. I don't ever want to hear it again!

You guys want a big confession? I'll give you guys a big confession. The Chain is performed by Fleetwood Mac. In fact The Chain is without a shadow of a doubt the worst song they ever sang in general.

That is just your opinion.

I agree, I don't care for that song either, a dud from 1975.

1975 had many great hit songs but it had it's share of lame ones too. Here are a few more from '75 that I consider in the lame category:

Rocky- Austin Roberts
Why Can't We Be Friends- War
Black Superman- Johnny Wakelin

David Geddes has the infamous distinction of having TWO lame hit songs from 1975, Run Joey Run and Blind Man In The Bleachers.

If you're going to start a topic like this then you can expect backlash from others who are going to disagree with you. When you stated that "The Chain" was the worst 70's song of all time you opened the floodgates for other songs to be talked about that are far worse. If you're upset that nobody is agreeing with you then I'm sorry, but others here have just as much right here to express an opinion as you do. One other thing, if you keep having an attitude about it I'll lock the thread.

My opinion of "The Chain" is that I'm not overly impressed with the song, it doesn't do much for me but I certainly don't think it's the worst song of the 70's. When I listen to the song, to me it sort of resembles folk music and I'm usually not a fan of folk music. I like the ending of the song when they up the tempo and pick up the beat, that part is pretty good.

Talking about the "Rumours" album, I've always thought that this album is overrated. It has the four hits but the other songs on the album are nothing special and basically serve as filler to round out the album.

I just gave it a (re)listen. It still holds up pretty well. I mean, it’s no “Who Let The Dogs Out?”, but if it pops up on the radio I’m probably not changing the station.

Another bad song from Fleetwood Mac is Don't Stop. That song is an abomination.

Just a wild guess here, but I don’t think nysfboy328@aim.c likes Fleetwood Mac

Really? If Gold Dust Woman, Second Hand News, Songbird, etc... are your ideas of filler, I shudder to think what you'd think of actual filler. Rumours is one of those albums that most would argue is solid from start to finish
