My mom found out just recently from a plant vendor who delivers some plants to her work that the local mall here might be closing down for good this time. It's a rumor though, so this may or may not be true at all.
How do I know it might be closing? Well... . One of the stores (Lord & Taylor) is cutting back their hours . 12 of the stores have already shut down This will really be the end of an era for this mall if it decides to shut down.

Shopping malls had their era in the 1980's and 1990's. With stores like Wal-Mart and so many people now doing shopping on line, malls are closing down everywhere. There are videos on YouTube where people who call themselves urban explorers visit these once popular malls where very few people are now seen shopping, and also visit malls that have been shut down and in a state of decay. These videos are depressing to see but show the fact that malls have had their heyday.

If business at the mall has become that slow then it sounds like it will probably close. You should go there while it's still open and take some pictures/videos as keepsakes and memories.

I told my dad about this and he wasn't surprised at all because even when he went, there was hardly anybody there.

That is really sad ! Hoping it doesn't close ! I would be so upset if the mall I go to most closes.
It actually is doing pretty well it seems ! Hope it stays that way! But one of the main stores is JC Penney, and if they close for good, the mall might lose a lot of business !!

My mom didn't say what 12 stores in particular are closed, but next time she asks the plant vendor, I will have some more information.
Sorry if the details are so very few because that was all of the very little information I had at the time. |

That's sad to hear. I love malls. It's just getting harder for them to find a reason for existing.
Hopefully your mall can pull through. |

The main reason why malls are dying is because since the debut of online shopping people have started doing their shopping on the computer because of all the great deals you can find at the mall at better prices. It sounds like your mall might be closing due to new management or new owners or probably whoever owns the mall is planning on selling it for good or the mall probably adopted a new image and couldn't keep up with the times. In my town we never have malls that have closed and my usual mall that I go to shop at has been open since the 70's and started out as a simple mall but now my mall today attracts big families and they have started to have live shows and concerts in Spanish on weekends rather than stuff in English and I never figured it out but it used to have a carousel that they replaced twice and I used to enjoy riding when I was a little girl but when they removed the carousel the mall started focusing on toy kiosks and putting in a children's playground and kiddie rides the mall catered to families and if you visit the mall any time of the day it can get NOISY with toddlers screaming and crying and making noise and clowning around the children's playground and I think that the mall started going downhill when they made those changes. But another mall that I used to frequent a lot because it was cool when I started going there but then the mall became completely dead and became a ghost town of a mall and the only stores that survive are Macy's and a hockey rink and has few stores and a diner but hardly anyone shops at that mall anymore. I also think that with the popularity of retailers such as Walmart opening superstores and Target with the Super Target chain of stores these superstores will replace malls because they now seem to carry everything you need from clothing to groceries. But I can imagine that in a few years malls will still be popular but the next stores that will close in the future ahead will be supermarkets and be replaced with superstores. Your mom's friend might even be transferred to a different mall to work and probably employees from the stores that are will be closing will likely go to other malls locations to work because that's often the case when stores close. What your mom's friend should ask the mall manager if there's another job at a different mall and she will most likely be referred to another job to apply for
Hope this advice will help you Mikaela Bestie |
